We Remember

NERGAARD, Anelise

July 25, 1933 – June 14, 2021

Anelise Nergaard, age 87, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2021, at Sunpointe Village.

Born in Hjørring, Denmark, Anelise, along with her family, immigrated to Canada after the war, when she was 18 years old.  They settled in Southern Alberta, and there she met and married then Constable Nels Nergaard (retired Staff Sergeant) of the RCMP.  Together they had two children, Bernard and Morena.  When Anelise was 60, she retired after a 20-year career at AGT.

Anelise and her sister, Inger, moved to Kelowna, BC to be closer to the kids. They spent their free time doing cross-stitch, crochet, knitting, and jigsaw puzzles.  Anelise also collected all things “elephant”.

Anelise will be missed by her surviving family: her son Bernard Svend Nergaard aka “Butch” and daughter-in-law Wendy (née Malacko); her daughter Morena Lynn Nergaard; her grandchildren Tynan (Taryn (née Barry)), Dustin, and Danielle; her great-grandchildren Emery, Mia, Tessa, and Lincoln; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Sadly, Anelise was predeceased by her parents Svend & Anna; her sisters Tove (d. 1935 of spinal meningitis) and Inger (d. 2020); and by all her brothers- and sisters-in-law. Anelise was the last of her generation.

The family would like to thank Ann Day, who spent time with their mom when her sister passed in 2020, as well as all the HCAs, and LPNs and RNs at Ried’s Corner at Sunpointe Village, as well as Dr. A. Thompson.

Due to the current pandemic, no formal service will be held. Family and friends will honour Anelise each in their own way. If you would like to honour her by giving a memorial donation, please send it to WWF (World Wildlife Fund).

If you wish to send a condolence, post photos, or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences”.
