We Remember

NEUFELD, Bruno

With a great sense of loss and much love, the family of Bruno Neufeld announces his passing on March 17, 2015. We know he is now with his Lord above.  He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of sixty years Freda, daughters Dianne (Blaine) Facey, Carole (Miles) Dalrymple, Wendy (Allan) Petillion and son Ron Neufeld (Karen Siluk); six much loved grandchildren: Chad (Julie) Facey, Greg (Wonda) Facey, Brian (Neema) Dalrymple, Holly (Chris) Nylen, Brent (Sarah) Petillion and Mitchell (Jillian) Petillion and six wonderful great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Rajan, Sahil, Brooke, Chloe and Brody.  He also leaves to mourn one brother Henry (Anne) Neufeld, one sister Olga (Morris) Rychliwski and brother-in-law Peter Suderman, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.  He is predeceased by his parents Henry and Aganeta Neufeld, brother Abe in infancy, sister Katie Isaak, sister Elsie Suderman, brother-in-law Jack Isaak and sister-in-law Jessie Neufeld.

 

Bruno was born on April 6, 1928 on the farm near Boissevain, Manitoba.  He went to a little country school and worked with his father on the farm.  In 1954 he married Freda Engbrecht. For many years Bruno farmed successfully, was involved in community life and was the rural councillor.  He was a member of the Lions Club for 38 years and was District Governor of District 5M in ‘73-‘74 enjoying his work immensely.  He helped build the Mennonite church in Boissevain and served as its treasurer for many years.

 

In 1977 Bruno and Freda decided to move to Kelowna and truly enjoyed their life here.  Bruno worked at the Lodge (Ramada) Motor Inn as night auditor until he retired.

 

Bruno always enjoyed sports, playing a lot of fastball with his buddies.  He was involved in building a golf course in Boissevain and he was hooked into playing golf.  He played many years as a member of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club and was so proud that he could say he always walked the course.  As many Prairie farmers do in the winter, he became a great curler and played in many bonspiels.  In his later years he enjoyed his daily walk around the CNC Center and the Greenway.  He and Freda enjoyed travelling, taking in New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Alaska, The Caribbean, Mexico and many southern states.

 

A private family graveside service will be held.  A reception with family and friends will be held at the Springfield Funeral Home Family Centre on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 2:00 pm

    Aunt Freda and family,

    We are so sorry for your loss. We have such great memories of Uncle Bruno, especially the New Year’s Eve we spent playing board games at Grandma’s in Winnipeg. It was always such a pleasure to visit with him. He always made us feel like we were special to him. We will miss his sense of humour and his kindness.

    So sorry to hear about Uncle Bruno. I hope you are remembering the good times. I have many fond memories of growing up with Uncle Bruno and all of you as neighbors. I like to believe he and our Dad are up in heaven playing ball and talking farming between games.

    It is with deep sadness that I recently learned of Bruno’s passing . He will remain an example to follow dating from the days as a high school I worked for him on the farm. My condolences to all those in his universe of family and friends .
