We Remember

NEWELL, Margaret Beryl (nee Murphy)

The family of Beryl Newell sadly announces her passing on January 20, 2014 at the Brookhaven Care Facility in Westbank, BC at the age of 72 years. Left to remember her with love are her family members: her daughters Kelly and Terry; her grandchildren Maegan (Matt), Tyler (Carli) Tyya and Natasha, great grandchildren Hunter, Nixie, Jace and Isla; her sisters Betty (Ralph) and Jean in PEI; her husband’s sisters Barbara, Mildred and Carolyn (Wayne) and his brothers Terry (Velma), George (Bonnie) and Mervin (Shirley) and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. Beryl is predeceased by her husband Randy, her granddaughters Erin and Lindsay, her father David, her mother Florence and her stepmother Evelyn. Beryl was born in Carlton, PEI on July 2, 1941, the youngest of three sisters. Beryl married Randy in 1960 in Toronto and began their life together in the military enjoying their moves across Canada and the USA. Randy and Beryl retired to Westbank from Ottawa in 1993 to be close to their daughters and grandchildren in Burnaby. Due to Beryl’s Multiple Sclerosis she moved into Brookhaven in January 1997 where her sunny nature and lovely smile made her a favorite with staff. Beryl was a great friend as was seen by her many friends who visited her often. She was a fervent supporter of the Annual Walk for M.S. and raised money each year for the Westside Wobblers. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the amazing, caring and loving staff at Brookhaven and her wonderful friends Sandy and Judy. As Beryl wished to be cremated her daughters will plan her memorial service for late April when the flowers bloom. She will be interred beside her loving husband at Westbank Cemetery. Beryl’s daughters would appreciate donations in Beryl’s name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada- Okanagan Chapter, 230 -1855 Kirschner Road, Kelowna, BC V1Y 4N7. Condolences

  • Diane Morazain says:

    Dear Kelly and Terry,

We are so sorry to learn of your mother’s death. Beryl was a kind human being and both Pierre and I enjoyed many good moments with Randy and her.
I like to think that they were reunited and that they’ll be watching over you and your families.

    Love and hugs

    Diane and Pierre Morazain

  • Michel Des Ruisseaux says:

I am very sorry to hear of your moms passing. We had spent most Sunday and Mondays for the last 3 years enjoying each other’s company. My fondest memory is playing poker with her and seeing how much she hated to lose. But it was all in fun. She would never miss a chance to play every Monday and even be a little upset if I did not show up one week. I will miss her dearly. Mike

  • Jeanette (Shetler) Russell says:

Dave and I had many happy times with Beryl and Randy when we all lived in North Bay. We’ll miss her pleasant personality and of course that never ending smile. Move over Randy and make room – Beryl will be joining you in April.
Jeanette & Dave Russell – North Bay, ON
