We Remember
NIELSEN, Anne-Maria Helene
April 27, 1937 — May 3, 2012
Anne-Maria Nielsen was one of three children born to Anna Link and Herbert Nagel in Landsberg/Warthe, Germany. Following difficult years spent as a refugee after WW2, she emigrated to Toronto in 1965, not knowing a word of English. By 1976, she had adapted to her new language and surroundings, and moved cross-country to Calgary with her husband, son and daughter. After her marriage ended in 1981, in 1985 she married Anders (Andy) Nielsen. After their retirement, the two moved to the warmer climate of Kelowna, and enjoyed Scandinavian folk dancing, traveling Canada and the US in their camper van, and frequent visits back to Anne-Maria’s family in Germany, and Andy’s family in Denmark. After a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer, Anne-Maria passed away at home in Kelowna, as she had wanted, just after her 75th birthday. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Andy, her sister Elfriede and brother Reinhard, her daughters Kimberly (partner Lee) and Maryanne (husband Kingsley), her son Greg (wife Synte), and her six grandchildren. She meant a great deal to all of us, and we will miss her dearly – she was a caring mother, a master baker and seamstress, a loyal wife, and she had the will of twenty. Though she has moved on to a better place, she will always be in our thoughts. She has chosen to be cremated, no service by her request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rutland Hospital Auxiliary or the charity of your choice.

So sorry to learn of Anne Maria’s passing. I had no idea she was not well.
I will miss seeing her and Andy on our walks in the beautiful Belgo orchard areas.
The last time we connected was on a Sunday morning (not too long ago) – Anne Maria and Andy were taking a ‘drive about’ while Frank & I were enjoying our Sunday morning walk together.
We had a little chat and then carried on.
She was a lovely lady and your families were blessed to have her as your own.
Soft hugs …
Diane and Frank Schell
I was very sorry to see that Anne Maria passed away. She and Andy have been coming into our business (Kettle Valley Graphics) for many years. We shared stories and laughter often and enjoyed our visits with our little dog “Buddy”. We were always happy to see her and her cheerfulness made our day better! We thought of her not only as a customer but as a friend.
May she rest peacefully.
She was a special lady…
