We Remember

NIETSCHE, Ernst “Ernie”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad and Papa, Ernst Nietsche.

Dad was born on November 13, 1927 in Austria and served his country in World War II. He immigrated to Canada where he worked on a farm in Saskatchewan. From there his travels took him to Vancouver where he met his bride, Maria. (Mitzi), they had four children: Roy, Linda, Rita and Christina.  Dad worked at a few different jobs, but his passion of gardening and landscaping took him to Port Hardy where he worked for the City of Port Hardy as a landscaper.  This is where dad enjoyed fishing and hunting while meeting some special friends.  Dad retired in 1991 and lived in Coquitlam with Mom until 1998 when they decided to move to Langley.  They enjoyed many years of retirement together.  Dad enjoyed doing the neighborhood landscaping as well as cutting the grass for the whole block! Mom passed away in 2008 and Dad moved up to the Okanagan until 2012, then decided to move to Vancouver Island where he always loved to be.  This is where dad passed away on February 23, 2016.  Dad leaves four children: Roy (Jane), Linda (Myles), Rita (Alan), Christina (Rich) and nine grandchildren: Sandra, Jason, Brandon, Brittany, Garrett, April, Jordan, Nicholas and Christian Ernst who is proud to be named after his papa!  Predeceased by his wife Maria as well as his beloved pets Chester and Sasha.

A celebration of Dad’s life was held in Qualicum Beach. A private family burial will take place at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery where dad will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Mitzi.

Special thanks to Linda and Myles, Rita and Alan for their care and compassion for Dad in his time of need. This meant a great deal to Dad and made his days easier and more enjoyable.

Rest in peace Dad! Auf Wiedersehen!

In lieu of flowers donations to any SPCA in Ernst’s memory would be greatly appreciated. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Hello to Ernie’s Family, I’m Very sorry for Your loss, and for everyone that was blessed with his friendship. Although I only knew Ernie for a short time while he lived up the street from me. ALWAYS a Wonderful visit, comical stories, laughs and always that Great smile. It was always my pleasure to help him with the modifications at his home, or repairs to his Ford…we always have a Good laugh with the Chevy vs Ford, and it carries on with his Wonderful Daughter, Chris. Ernie always had a bottle of Jagermeister in his freezer, and at some point during a visit, he would nod his head in the direction of the fridge, and say “You know where it is”. Now when I have a drink of Jager, I’ll Always think of You Ernie and toast You. I Wish You All the Best….Kim
