We Remember

NILL, Hans

September 28, 1936 — November 4, 2021

The family of Hans Nill regrets to announce his unexpected passing on November 4, 2021, at the age of 85.

Hans was born and raised in Lauffen am Neckar in Germany. He met the future love of his life, Gisela, in pre-school, and they were later to be married in 1958. At the age of 15, Hans began working with his parents, Robert and Else, in the family hairstyling business. In 1959, at the age of 23, Hans and Gisela opened their first beauty salon in Lauffen and opened a second beauty salon in Bietigheim in 1966. In 1977, Hans and his family emigrated to Kelowna, BC to start a new adventure. Hairstyling was a part of his work life until 2006.

Life in Canada allowed Hans to explore the great outdoors. He loved hunting and spending time with his horse, Valis. Hans thoroughly enjoyed reading books, playing chess, swimming, and having a meaningful dialogue. Above all, Hans loved spending time with his grandchildren and was always known for proudly carrying photos of his family. He was best described by family and friends as loving, affectionate, thoughtful, generous, courageous, and gentle.

Hans will be dearly missed, and our memories of him will live on in our hearts.

The family is grateful to the staff at Kelowna General Hospital. They appreciate the empathy and excellent care that Hans experienced through the challenging last days of his life.

Hans’ memory will be carried on by his loving wife Gisela; daughter Stephanie (Ray), and grandchildren Dace and Kalina; son Mark (Kimberley), and grandchildren Yanik, Torin, and Braea; as well as by his sister Marga Lane (Charles).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kelowna’s Gospel Mission.

A private gathering will be held to honour Hans and the family would like to invite all who want to pay their respects to join online by Livestream on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2021, at 1:00 PM (PST), see below. A recording will be made available to view shortly thereafter.
