NIXON, Georgina “Georgie” (née Coulter)
—
1921 – 2023
Georgie Nixon of Kelowna (formerly of Regina and Northern Ireland) passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 31, 2023, at the remarkable age of 101 years.
Georgie was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Harry. She will be forever missed by her children, daughters Tulla and Deirdre (Michael, deceased) as well as her son Jim and daughter-in-law Diana. Georgie also leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Eric, Ingrid (Frank), Andrew (Shannon), Deirdre (Trevor), Matt (Erin), Karlee (Brad), Jessee, Kyle (Carolyn), Brenna (Brett), and 18 great-grandchildren.
Georgie was born on a homestead in Saskatchewan to Irish parents George and Elizabeth. She returned to Ireland with her father and younger brother after her mom’s passing. Georgie and Harry eventually settled in Regina to reside and raise their family. They later retired in Kelowna. They were welcomed into the community at Sunrise Village, where they made lasting friendships.
Throughout her life, Georgie worked as a nurse, self-taught dressmaker extraordinaire and sewing teacher. She had boundless energy and talent as a seamstress. She was commissioned to create a 1906 reproduction gown for the Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor.
In recent years, Georgie has been blessed with excellent care from the staff at Glenmore Lodge. The family is thankful for and appreciates the loving care they have provided.
Georgie was a modern woman with incredible determination and a love of life. She lived her life well and will be missed dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Sincere condolences on the passing of your incredible mother. She was such a delightful woman. May you delight in all her memories…
To the family, so sorry for your loss! My Mom, Betty Swenson, used to do sewing and alterations for other people in Georgie’s basement in their house on 10 block King St. I think my Mom enjoyed her many years working with Georgie.
50 years ago Georgina Nixon taught me how to sew at WOW Garments. She changed the life of a 16 year old single mother. I have never forgotten her and was just speaking of her a few days ago. She was a wonderful woman and teacher.
Jim, Dianna and family: Apologize as we’d not seen the notice of your mom’s passing until the last days. Jim, Dianna and family. Apologize for the late response of condolences.
