We Remember
NORTH, Marion
—
NORTH, Marion K., 92, of Lake Country, BC, formerly of Birtle, Manitoba, passed away on May 28, 2014 at the Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna, BC.
Marion was sadly predeceased by her husband Stephen in 1993 and her son Hugh in 1964.
She is survived by six children: Lynne (Ed) of Lake Country, BC, David (Susan) of Brandon, MB, Lorna (Bob) of Oyama, BC, Heather (Richard) of Winnipeg, MB, Neil (Lexi) of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Geoffrey (Tamara) of Birtle, Manitoba. She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren and her brother Ron Harrison of Brandon, Manitoba.
Mom’s interests were many. She loved reading, gardening, knitting and animals, but her very happiest times were spent with her family, cooking, talking and visiting over a cup of tea, or a game of Scrabble. Even at an advanced age, she maintained friendships, some as long as 80 years, with people back in Manitoba, where she had lived from 1961 – 2001. These friendships were precious to her.
Marion was the warmest and dearest mother and we will miss her and her lovely smile (and her King Edward cake).
The family would very sincerely like to thank Community Care Home first for letting us be her family again and not so much as care-givers. Your care allowed her to remain in her own home up until the last month of her life, which is what she wanted. Also, to the paramedics and nursing staff on 6 West of KGH, thank you so much for your excellent care and compassion, both for Mom and us.
“And that is Dying”
I am standing on the seashore.
A ship spreads her sails to the
Morning breeze and starts for the ocean.
I stand watching until
She fades on the horizon,
And someone at my side says, “She is gone.”
Gone where?
The loss of sight is in me,
Not in her. Just at the moment
When someone says, “She is gone!”
There are others who
Are watching her coming.
Others take up the glad shout,
“Here she comes!”
And that is dying.

I loved visiting Mrs. North in Birtle until she moved to B. C.
her country home down by the Birdtail River was warm and inviting and it was nice to hear her stories of her family, some of whom were my school friends growing up. Every Christmas till just the past few years she wrote and sent us Xmas greetings. my boys remember visiting Lynn and Ed in Kelowna when they were small. We all send our condolences to Marion’s family at this sad time; she was such a sweet lady. My mother, Ella Mae Honey, spoke highly of Marion also, when mother was with us, years ago. God bless Marion and her family…..
so very sorry to hear that your mom passed away.
Richard had mentioned to me that she wasn’t feeling well.
