We Remember

NOVINIC, Alex & Eva

With tremendous sadness, the families of Alex & Eva Novinic announce they have quietly departed this life on August 11, 2021, within 20 hours of each other. A true love story after 70 years of marriage, both in their early 90s.

They emigrated from Croatia to make a better life with two young daughters and had two more daughters born in Canada.

Both Alex and Eva worked extremely hard to thrive in a new country.  Eva’s true gift of nurture shone in her amazing Culinary skills in which she took much pride in. Alex a Master Craftsman took pride in the many homes he built for his family.  Saturday night socials were with friends either at home or dancing at the Croatian Club. They both enjoyed their gardens, flowers and in time enjoyed their annual trips to Hawaii.

Their beautiful lives will be forever cherished in the heart’s of their; children: Christine (Rick), Barbara, Irene August (Brian August), and Caroline; grandchildren: Evan (Melissa), Dayna (Kelly), David (Gabriela), Scott, Matt August, and Michelle August (Mike); and great-grandchildren: Kaiden, Emma, & Paige, and Ainsley & Lochlan; along with many wonderful friends and extended family in Croatia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place for them on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 10:15 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2547 Hebert Rd, West Kelowna. Noon Burial at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, 1991 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna, BC (attendance will be limited to both events to comply with current restrictions). Due to the fires and pandemic, the family will not be hosting a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association on behalf of Alex and Eva Novinic would be appreciated.

Though we are cousins we haven’t had many oppurtunities to meet. Please receive my sincere regrets and condolences (as well as those of my mother Maria Novinic and my sister Anna-Maria) for the passing away of your parents, Alex and Eva. I remeber them very from our rare but heartfull meetings, sometimes in Croatia and one time in Sweden where my mother Maria (Alex younger sister) lives. If there’s a link to be able to participate in the ceremony today, please send it to us.
    Best regards, Josip Horvat
