We Remember

NUGENT, Dennis Lewis

September 4, 1932 — February 21, 2015

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dennis Lewis Nugent, a much loved husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to all.  Dennis is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Annette, children Sandy (Greg Purves), Patty Nugent, Theresa (Rob Watts), Dan Nugent, Trish (Paul Stewart).  Grandchildren, Christy, Jessica, Jennifer, Michael, Brittany, Patrick, Ellyanna, Mady, Bre, Stewy and great grandchildren Alexis, Sawyer and Olin. He is also survived by his sister Francis Jones, dozens of nieces and nephews, and life long friends the Cowan family.  Born in Gravelbourg Saskatchewan Dennis made his way to the Okanagan where he built a wonderful life for the past 50 years. Dennis spent 35 years as a Professional long haul truck driver but his passion was for sports, in particular hockey.  He played for the famous Gravelbourg Black Cats and loved nothing more than to watch his children, his children’s friends and grandchildren play the game.  Dennis spent his retirement years enjoying his family and his treasured pets.  This Irish Rover loved much and was much loved!  10-4 Good buddy.  Prayer Service on Thursday, February 26th at 7:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.  A Funeral Service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC at 1:00 pm on Friday February 27.  A celebration of Life at the Army and Navy Club in Rutland at 4:00 pm.

    My deepest condolences to the Nugent family..I remember your dad in the 1970’s when we played on the rep hockey team.I also remember him coming to Rutland Tire with his rig..RIP Dennis

    Mrs Nugent (Mamma Nuge) you were blessed to have spent 57 years with your soul mate…you raised 4 wonderful children that have succeeded in life and are passing on the traditions of the ‘Nugent’ clan onto there children. Each of you are who you are today because of your Mom and Dads influence, guidance and unending support expressed in either words or actions. Your Dad lives on in your hearts and memories. Celebrate the years that you were blessed with his presence….he is gone

    To the Nugent family, while I had never met Dennis I saw him through Patty’s eyes. We laughed at the similarities between our fathers. Dennis’s passing prompted me to call my own father and tell him I love him. My heart goes out to you at this most difficult time.

    “Home is where the heart is” … Uncle Dennis had a kind and generous heart and I always felt at home around him. He was easy to like and I truly enjoyed his company … sipping on a “Bud” in the back yard on a hot summer day or enjoying the action at a Rockets game. You will be sadly missed Uncle Dennis but remembered for all the good times we shared together.

    To my Grandfather you were my first true hero. You loving hands, strong arms, gentle smile and quick wit made you one of my most favourite people.
