O’REILLY, Betty
—
Went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2015 at the age of 91. Survived by her daughters: Judy (George) of Winnipeg, Wendy of Campbell River; sons: Shawn (Sandy) of Kelowna, Pat (Angela) of Florida; grandchildren Meghan, Sarah, Jenny, John, Matthew, Michael, Erin, Connor, Jonathan, Rebecca; great grandchildren: Ethan and Emmett. Sadly predeceased by her husband Jack and son Tim.
Betty and husband Jack, came to Kelowna from Portage la Prairie in the 1940’s and soon after settled on the Hall Road family orchard. After Jack’s death in 1972 the orchard was subdivided into the O’Reilly Subdivision and Betty continued to live on the property until 2003. She had many hobbies, was an avid tennis player until well into her 70’s, was a KGH volunteer for over 30 years, a great friend to many, and a loving mother and grandmother. In her last years Betty lived for 2 years at Okanagan Chateau and 6 months at David Lloyd Jones Care Facility, surrounded by wonderful professionals who extended her their friendship, care and kindness. A big thanks to every one of you. A visitation will be held at Springfield Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 839 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC with Father Sebastian Puthenpura as celebrant. Shawn and family, my deepest condolences to all. Your mother was a dear lady.
Shawn, Sandy and the rest of the family. I was so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was such an amazing lady. I saw her at KGH as a volunteer so often. She had a wonderful life and a fantastic family. I am thinking of all of you at this difficult time. Memories will be with you forever. Hugs to all. Barb Carpenter
Very sad to hear the news that our dear Betty has left us. She was truly one of my favorite people I had the pleasure of knowing as an employee of the Okanagan Chateau. She will be sadly missed by many. My prayers and thoughts are with all of the O’Reilly family. She was one in a million!
Betty and I volunteered at KGH together in the 90’s…I never forgot her… I was a teenager and she was a senior but we got along like there were no years between us…!!! One in a million. She will be missed.
pat and family,
so sorry for your loss… your mom always had a smile whenever we would see her… her endless love for you will be with you always… teresa
My smypathies to the children of Betty – I recall my father visiting your dad many years ago. Many years later I often saw Betty at the Wedgewood where both my parents were residing – she’s was always so very sweet, with a big smile and would enjoy a pleasant chat with her. She was a wonderful volunteer at the Hospital as well. Betty always spoke highly of her kids and I missed running into her after she left the Wedgewood several years back… one of those “older” people from ICC that held special memories for kids like us growing up with parents of the same age! Donna (Coupal) Numminen
I recall our dad visiting your dad way back – many years later, Betty was in the same place our folks moved to. I always enjoyed running into your mom at the Wedgewood – very cute, personable and jovial. I often saw her volunteering at the hospital as well – many years of service at that place – a super great lady who thought highly of her kids and was always a joy to run into….
I am so sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. She was such a sweet lady & I will miss her. She always had a smile for me, thank you for the laughter, my Dear. 🙂 Love Kathy
Shawn, Sandy and family, my deepest condolences to the family.
Pat, Shawn and families,
We are so saddened to hear of your great loss. Your mother was such a kind hearted, gentle soul, who whenever she saw me, greeted me with a great big smile and warm hug. I loved seeing her come into the store, very frequently in the past, not so much as of late. She always had to update me on the status of you Pat, boasting at what a great Dad/family man, you had become. I love to watch her as she spoke of her kids, she was so proud of her boys and their families. She will be greatly missed. A beautiful lady!
In our prayers

To all the O’Reilly families,
We were so saddened to hear of Betty’s passing. So many fond memories with your family and ours. Your Mom’s infectious smiled warmed everyone’s hearts. She and Jack left a wonderful legacy in their family which I know meant more than anything to both of them. Thinking of you with a heavy heart.
My deepest sympathy goes to your family. Betty was one of our favourite customers at the photo counter at London Drugs. She’ll be greatly missed.

The challenge in writing an obituary is to encapsulate the significance of a life ‘n personality that so immeasurably impacted the lives of so many ‘n to do it in a way that accurately conveys the depth of gratitude ‘n appreciation owed to the subject.
Words at this time to express what is in our hearts for all of you are so hard to find ‘n I am certain, if we found the words they would be inadequate.
As a child I grew up knowing the O’Reilly family… As an adult… I bowled with Betty on the Happy Gal League for years. I enjoyed her beautiful spirit… her immense strength.. ‘n oh her beauty… Upon entering KGH as a patient or visiting patients ‘n seeing Betty just when you feel the need for a touch from someone… there she was… holding out her arms to me … to hug me… While in her arms she hugged the ugly away.
I found a passage awhile ago… that I would like to share with you that I feel speaks eloquently about Betty:
~ Her life was so gentle ‘n the elements so mixed in her ………..that nature might stand up ‘n say to all the world……… this was a woman. ~
Take care of each other ‘n may you find comfort in each other as the days go on ‘n may you often remember from the heart all the memories kept there to love ‘n cherish which will become sweeter and richer with time. You are in our thoughts ‘n hearts.
For Mrs O’Reillys Family

Shawn and family. I am sorry to hear about your mother. I got to know her a bit over the years and she was a great caring lady. My uncle was very good friends with her for many years, as well as good friends with your father. My prayers are with you.
Shawn, Judy, Wendy, and Pat,
I was sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I have very fond memories of her spirit and her great sense of fun. I will also never forget the amazing buns she used to bake! It was lovely to reconnect with her a few years ago at the Wedgewood where my mother now lives.
Although you will miss her, be comforted that she lives on in all of you and in your own children. What a wonderful legacy.
Petra
To the O’Reilly family, sorry to hear of Betty’s passing, she will be missed by all of you and many friends. Cherish your memories. One of my favourite is from our first summer in Kelowna (way back in 1968) and our families having picnic dinners at the beach.
