We Remember

OBENAUER, Randolph “Randy” Bradley

July 6, 1948 — July 9, 2023

With great sadness, we announce that Randy Bradley Obenauer, in his 75th year, peacefully passed away, Sunday, July 9, 2023, after a courageous battle with cardiovascular disease.

He is held dear in the hearts of his 4 children Sherry, Randi, Patrick, and Carley; 3 grandchildren Sparrowhawk, Jaxon, and Baxter; sister Linda Vowles; brother-in-law Gene Skarra; 3 nieces Lisa, Jessica, and Erin; nephew Todd; and his beloved cat Jerry. As well as those who left an everlasting impact in Randy’s life with their help and support; his ex-wife Patricia McClelland ( who was helpful and supportive during his final years); and best friend Vince Campbell, who was always there for him. Randy goes to join those who went before him, including his mother Ethel Vowles (née Busche); father Fred Obenauer; and 3 sisters Ilona, Karen, and Susan.

Randy was a kind and intelligent man, who held a great understanding of people, with an open and nonjudgmental mind. His greatest joys were his 4 children and 3 grandchildren, who he loved to spend time with visiting or on the telephone during his final months of illness at Glenmore Lodge. Randy’s sister Linda was also a light in the darkness during his illness, as she was very close to her brother and spent many nights with him at his apartment and previous care home, as well as visiting him at Glenmore Lodge. The two of them enjoyed watching the Soprano TV Series together.

Randy enjoyed the simple things in life, such as going for coffee, shopping with his best friend, Vince, and indulging in monthly restaurant meals with Linda and Gene. He had an unmistakable sweet tooth, and always looked forward to the pastries that Gene would bring him whenever he visited the hospital or care home. Randy would consistently make an effort to ensure that the stray cats and birds around his neighbourhood were taken care of, which evidently showed his great care and compassion for all.
