We Remember
OEN, Lyle
September 24, 1932 — June 26, 2022
Lyle Oen passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 26, 2022, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 89.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen; his children Debra and Dianna (Terry); his grandchildren Rhianna, Meghan, Joel, Jordan, and Ian; his great-grandchildren Keen and Ailey; sister-in-law Mauna; and nieces Marleen, Barbara, Shelley, Monica, and Michelle. Lyle was predeceased by his wife Francis; brothers Olif, Donald, and Arnold (Barney); and his parents Eric and Ragna.
Lyle was born in Sanctuary, SK. He grew up on the family farm in Admiral, SK with his parents and three brothers. At the age of 18, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed in Canada and Germany. His career as an Intelligence Officer gave him a lot of pride and he loved telling stories about his extensive travels in Europe and his exciting assignments in Canada. After 25 years he took on a second career as Superintendent of Border Crossings, working in Edmonton, Coutts, Carway, and Cheif Mountain.
Lyle had a love of cars, motorhomes, and travel. He especially enjoyed his trip to Norway with his father and his yearly treks to Minot to Norsk Fest. Lyle’s love for his dogs was well known: wherever Lyle was he always had his dogs with him.
He has been described by many as a gentleman. He was caring, loving, and had an infectious smile.
Lyle will be greatly missed by all the family and anyone who knew him. Rest in peace Lyle. We love you.
A special thank you to the staff at Sun Pointe Village (Ellison) for their love and care, to Pastor David for his spiritual support, and to April for her visit.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Edmonton, AB.
