It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Raymond Michael Ottenbreit on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the age of 81. Raymond is survived by his loving wife Helen of 57 years; daughters Melody (Paul) of Kelowna, and Shannon (Paul) of Prince George; son Robin of Kelowna; grandchildren Nicole (Peter) and Michael (Jamie); great grandchild Isaac; sister Evelyn (John) of Kelowna; brothers Daniel (Mary) of Simcoe, Ontario and Siegfried (Mildred) of Kelowna; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Anton and Elizabeth Ottenbreit, sisters Julianna and Janice, and brother Anthony. Raymond was born on the family farm near Grayson, SK on November 19, 1934. Ray moved with his family in 1946 to an orchard in the Hollywood area of Rutland. He enjoyed many sports in his teen years, baseball, bowling, and hockey. Ray met and married Helen in July, 1958 and they raised their family in Rutland. He continued on with his love of sports by coaching baseball for many years as well as umpiring games. Ray worked in the forest industry (Plywood Plant in Kelowna) for 44 years until his retirement in 1994. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and camping. He indulged his desire to travel with his family; exploring everywhere from his own backyard to tropical destinations. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Parish (formerly St. Theresa’s), 750 Rutland Road North, Kelowna, BC with Father Cerlouie Jimenez officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 2Z6. Melody, Helen and families. so sorry to hear of your loss. We remember Ray with great fondness, when he used to stop by the farm to go and pick his own corn for supper or BBQ.
