We Remember

PANSEGRAU, Allen

July 10, 1941 — March 22, 2024

On March 22, 2024, Allen Pansegrau at the age of 82. Allen was born on July 10, 1941.

Knowing the measure of our days, God called his faithful servant, Allen Norman Pansegrau, on the 22nd of March 2024, at the age of 82, to come be with his Saviour, Jesus. Allen left this life peacefully at home with his wife by his side.

Allen, our faithful, hard-working, and honest husband, father, and grandfather is missed by his loving wife, Shelah, is loved and respected by his children, Melanie Hait (Jim), Wayne Pansegrau and Loralie Norley, and by his grandchildren, Brendan Hait (Kaitlyn), Ryan Hait, and Kaylan Hait. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Bartz (Ron). He is remembered by many Arndt family nieces and nephews.

Allen was predeceased by his mother and father Annie and Michael Pansegrau. Allen was predeceased by his first wife Norma (née Arndt), his grandson Jordan Michael Hait, and his stepmother, Alice Pansegrau.

Allen was born in Kelowna, BC on July 10, 1941, and was raised on the Benvoulin Road family farm.
When Allen was 11, his mother Annie passed away, and later his father married Alice Hait. At the age of 12, Allen began dairy and hay farming alongside his father. In 1958, Allen and his family moved the dairy farm to Cornish Road, where they milked 80 cows. In those years, Allen worked hard on the farm and dairy, but also made time to attend hockey games, cruise around Kelowna and waterski with friends.

Allen met and married Norma Arndt in 1968 and went on to have and raise their children, Melanie and Wayne. The dairy farm was sold in 1970, and Allen continued to hay and cattle farm and began his 40-year career at Black Mountain Irrigation District. Allen and his family enjoyed family gatherings where Rook was always played and generous meals served, boating and beach days, fun around the pool and trampoline, travel to Alberta, Washington, California and Hawaii. When Norma was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, Allen became her caregiver until her passing in 1994.

Allen met and married Shelah (née Douglas) in 1995 and welcomed her daughter, Loralie, into his family. Together, Allen and Shelah farmed hay and fed cattle, custom harvested, sold hay to many Okanagan horse owners, leased additional hay land and worked side by side for 29 years of harvests. These busy and vital years were punctuated by the births of three grandchildren, more family gatherings, winter holidays in warm destinations, building new homes and Allen’s enduring love of hockey. Allen’s passion for hockey, but especially for the Kelowna Rockets, made him and Shelah dedicated ticket holders for 25 seasons. He wore out more than a few drums cheering for his Rocketmen! Allen celebrated his retirement from BMID in 2009 noting his long connection to the farms and farmers of the Belgo, Rutland and Ellison. In 2023, at the age of 82, Allen decided to retire from farming the land he had worked for more than 65 years.

Allen grew up in the Church, and at the age of 20, he was among the 72 people from Grace Baptist Church who came together to form Trinity Baptist Church, where he was a charter member for 62 years. As a member, Allen broke ground on church construction, sang in the men’s and mixed choirs and served as an usher for decades.

Allen was a hard-working and respected man of commitment and integrity. He stoically endured times of discomfort and illness with patience and resilience. He never hesitated to come to aid of a friend or neighbour in need. We remember and love him for his unwavering love for his family and pride in his work.
