We Remember
PATRICK, Sonya
June 16, 1971 — November 20, 2025
Born on June 16, 1971, in White Rock, British Columbia, Sonya Patrick died on November 20, 2025, surrounded by the people who loved her, at the Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, BC. The date happened to be Global Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day, which felt like the sort of detail she would have noticed, mentioned, and then laughed about because life is full of odd timings that somehow fit.
Sonya is survived by her daughter, Ella, and Ella’s father and Sonya’s longstanding friend, Duane, along with his partner, Kyra. She leaves her siblings, Les, Steven, and Debbie with brother-in-law, Neil, and a wide circle of extended family who each carry their own special version of her in their heads. The version most people shared was someone who cared fiercely, joked often, and stubbornly protected anyone who drifted into her orbit.
She was predeceased by her little dog, Sassy, who had been her shadow for years. Friends joked that Sassy had behaved less like a pet and more like a co-pilot. Now the two are together again, and it is easier to picture the pair reunited than to imagine Sonya without that small blur of fur.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC SPCA.

I hadn’t known Sonya for very long, but we quickly became friends, sitting together and singing in the Kelowna Rock Choir. Sonya told me that she’d always wanted to sing in a choir, so I’m glad to have shared that experience with her. I shall miss her Irish lilt and her humour—and the glass of wine we never got to share.
Dear Ella, you were always first and foremost in her thoughts—and how proud she is of you. ❤️
My wee sis may you rest easy we will always hold you in our hearts 💜💜
Sending all our love to the family especially our sister in law Debbie. Still remember Sonya from when she lived in Belfast always on the go into her keep fit and loved life. Lots of love xx

Sonya lived life to the fullest and left an impact on all that knew her. I have not seen her for years after her move to BC but fondly remember her incredible energy and passion for life. She will be greatly missed and my sincere condolences to all her family.
My deepest condolences to Steve, and the whole family for their loss , my thoughts are with you , Luv n Hugs to you all💞🌺
Sonya, you were always a beautiful person inside and out. We attended Grove Primary School together, along with Joanne Doak and Adrienne Davidson and we had some good times there. What I remember most about you was your beautiful smile. You dazzled everyone with it. Coming across your profile on Facebook, I could see you were still dazzling everyone with it. My mum still has our P7 class photo hanging up & looking at it today, you really hadn’t changed that much. The legacy you’ve left behind is your daughter Ella. You raised a strong girl and I’ve no doubt she’ll do everything to make you so proud of her. Rest easy Sonya, it was a privilege knowing you 💔
Condolences Ella and family. Thinking of you, and hoping you find peace in the warm, enduring memories of a courageous woman who loved you fiercely.
I was looking forward to mentoring Sonya in a new career this year. Her future, looked bright. She was bright and funny and engaging and just so ALIVE. With this in mind, it must be such a hard time for those closest to her. I send you all love and, I know as your pain eases a little your gratitude for having her in your lives will continue to blossom. I did not know her well., but you did not have to to realize what an incredible human being she was and how much of a loss you must be feeling.
My deepest condolences to you Ella and the rest of your family. Sonya will be greatly missed. Sending you love and strength.
Sonya your smile your energy will live on sadly missed by MARK LAWRENCE AND GREGORY (IRVINE) RIP LOVED ONE 💙💙💙 XXX….
Privileged to have known her. We met in her many roles in the BC Wine industry and always game for a good time, she joined the Okangan Burger Tour to get together with likeminded individuals over a burger — in part to support our local industry. We kept in touch through Facebook and I loved her posts charting the great successes of her girl Ella. Sonya will be so missed. Condolences to all lucky enough to know her.
My sincere condolence to Ella and family. I so cherish the times when Sonya was my neighbour in Penticton. Sassy would liven up a bit whenever she ran into Oonie. The sipping wine and singing was a blast on Sonya’s visits.
Sonya was such a beautiful, caring, fun and positive friend. She will be terribly missed. Ive so many fond memories of our nights out in Belfast we always had the best laughs together. My love and prayers go out to Ella,Debbie,Steven and Les and family circle. Sonya’s funeral service was beautiful. 💖

To Ella and family I am so sorry for your loss. The funeral service was very moving and beautiful. I was able to watch the live stream here on the Shore Road in Belfast. You and your family are very much in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
To Ella and family. Thinking of you all, at this very sad time. Sonya’s funeral service was so lovely. The photos & video clips in the slide show, were so beautiful. So many precious memories for you all to cherish ❤️
Sonya was my friend for well over forty years. We went to Grove Primary School together, but didn’t really become friends until we went to Graymount Secondary School. We got separated from our friends and sorted into the “smart class.” That was Sonya, all right, a smart cookie. I’ll remember our crazy nights out in Belfast and singing at the top of our lungs. I’ll miss our check-ins through DMs. I’ll cherish our friendship forever. Sending love to Ella, Debbie, Steve, Les and Duane. Juls x
Sonya was everything the world needs now. Caring, compassionate, genuine. She became a permanent part of my consciousness the moment I met her. The world was a better place with Sonya in it. She is sadly missed.
