We Remember

PIRIE, Frances Maryann

November 10, 1946 — June 6, 2021

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Fran Pirie, 74, of Kelowna, BC, on June 6, 2021. She slipped away comforted by family and the incredible staff at Kelowna General Hospital. Fran is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dave; her son, Terry (Jacqueline), and her daughters Kathy (Jeff) and Dani (Darrell); and her grandchildren, Katharine (Brendon), Mary Frances, Maria, Therese, Rory, Alexia, and Korrie. Fran is also survived by her two sisters Diane (Roy) and Val (John); sister-in-law, Gail; and nephews.

Fran was born and raised in Calgary, AB where this exceptional, success-driven woman raised a family, pursued and excelled in various career interests before she became one of the top realtors in Calgary. She eventually retired in 2001, and Fran and Dave moved to the sunny Okanagan in 2004. They have lived in Gallaghers Canyon since 2007.

Fran was actively involved in Ladies Golf, being former Ladies Club Captain in Gallaghers, and was chairwoman for several years for the Ladies Pro-Am Golf Tournament which supported the Kelowna Women’s Shelter. Fran was actively involved in the community at Gallaghers and participated in various social committees which benefited all residents.

As so beautifully described by one of her nephews, Fran was a special woman who led an impactful and inspiring life. Fran is known for her selfless generosity, strength,  infectious laughter, her style, beauty, and grace. She touched many people with her gorgeous green eyes and sincerity, and she loved to bring people together. No matter who you were, she was happy to share her sparkle and made everyone feel important. She was very much her own person, with her head and heart always in the right place. Fran had a designer’s flair and was able to change the 4 walls of their many homes into a beautiful home filled with joy.

Fran and her soulmate, Dave, loved to socialize with their many good friends, play golf, travel the world together, and enjoyed the simple things in life like sipping Okanagan wine, reading, and going to movies. Anyone who knew Fran would agree that she was born to shop!

Fran was predeceased by her parents Anne and Frank Taylor of Calgary, AB.

Fran has been cremated, and we are planning a Celebration of Life for Fran at a future date in the Fall, once COVID-19 restrictions are ended.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Kelowna Women’s Shelter or the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.

  • Nancy & Terry Folkestad says:

Dave: You and Fran came into our lives as our neighbours in Heritage Hills (outside of Penticton). Well, actually Bailey came into our lives first, as he ran down the driveway and right into our home. Fran and I immediately connected and decided to meet for lunch and some wine and so our friendship began with you both! We are so happy that we were able to stay in touch for lunches and dinners with you both after you moved up to Kelowna. We will fondly remember bashes at both of our homes, but most notably Dave’s big celebration with live music around the pool in your backyard, while we danced the night away. I have many great photos from that night and many others! Fran always spoke with so much love for you Dave, your children and grandchildren and your extended family! I know she felt truly blessed to have you all in her life! We are all blessed to have know this beautiful, kind soul – Fran! Fran – you will be so missed!
Love & hugs, Nancy & Terry Folkestad

  • Dell and Hans Tiedemann says:

    Dear David and Family.
As I read through Fran’s obituary, which describes her so fittingly full of life, joy and generosity, it is hard to believe she is gone. I feel privileged to have worked for Fran at the real estate office and subsequently for David, and enjoyed the friendliness of the family, so can only imagine how difficult a time this has been. We will remember Fran’s smiling face and personality in our fond memories and please know that caring thoughts are with you. May the happiness that you all shared be warmly remembered and may those memories help to ease the pain of losing Fran.
    Warmest thoughts, Dell and Hans
