POTTER, Valerie Darlene

September 18, 1955 — October 16, 2022

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our dear sister Valerie Potter. Val died unexpectedly on October 16, 2022. She is loved and will be dearly missed by her sisters and brothers-in-law Aloria & Darwin Ryckman, Dianna & Laurie Rorick, Mary Ann & David Cloessner and Dorothy Donnelly, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She has been reunited in heaven with her father, Stanley Potter, mother, BettyAn Potter; brother David; sisters Maxine & Lisa; As well as her fur babies Bailey & Sammy.

In 1967 Val had an accident that left her paralyzed in a wheelchair. Although Val was handicapped she didn’t let that stop her from competing in the paraplegic games in Vancouver. She competed in the shot put, javelin and discus for which she won several gold and silver medals. Little do most people know that Val competed in arm and wrist wrestling competitions and won three trophies.

She had a deep caring love for alll dogs. She especially loved her two fur-babies Bailey and Sammy. She had Bailey (shih tzu) her pride and joy for over 13 years. Sammy was her little female yorkie mix.

Val enjoyed her hobbies in arts and crafts, flower arranging and making jewellery. She went to school to become a manicurist and used her skills at Josephe Benjamin to make the elderly ladies’ day with pretty nails. She also offered her time and hair to be a model for the upcoming hair stylists at the school in Kelowna.

Rest in peace Val. We will love you and forever keep you in our hearts.

A Memorial service will be held  on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 4:00 pm (PDT) at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. The service will be Livestreamed on Springfield’s website for all the family and friends that cannot attend the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a pet rescue group of your choice.

    Our love and deepest sympathy to Aloria, Diana, Mary Ann and Dorothy in the loss of their sister Val. We had the privilege of staying two nights with her during our travels a few years ago. We have made a donation to the ASPCA in her name.
