We Remember

PREHOFER, Helen

September 24, 1932 — June 22, 2024

It is with much sadness that the family of Helen Prehofer announces her passing on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the age of 91.

Helen valued her family and spent a lot of her life devoted to them.  She was the beloved wife of Frank (predeceased), and the loving mother of Frank (Carmen), Eric (Janith) and Karin (Mike); the doting grandmother of five grandsons and two granddaughters; as well as the proud great-grandma of two great-grandchildren!

A remarkably well-rounded individual, with a multitude of interests that enriched her life and those around her, Helen was an artist who explored the world with open eyes.  She found peace and inspiration in the great outdoors by simply enjoying a quiet moment in the garden.  Travel was an adventure she embraced wholeheartedly, exploring new cultures and experiences with curiosity.  When she wasn’t out exploring, Helen spent her time reading, often getting lost in the pages of a good book or engrossed in National Geographic magazine, where she avidly followed stories of exploration and discovery.  A favorite subject of hers was history which led to her delving into the past, uncovering the stories and lessons that shaped our present.

Her diverse interests not only made her a joy to be around but also a source of endless knowledge and inspiration.  Helen was known for her fair and balanced judgment, and her helpful advice.  Her great sense of humor always brightened the room.  Helen was a social person who loved to connect with people over a cup of coffee, a meal or a game.  She had an innate ability to lend a listening ear or offer a kind word to anyone.  No description of Helen would be complete without mention of her generosity.  She gave more than she received, and we are all grateful for it.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to either the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, or donate to your favorite charity in Helen’s name.

A Funeral Service, with a reception following, will be held on WEDNESDAY JULY 17, 2024, AT 1:00 PM (PDT), at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. Interment will take place afterwards at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, 1991 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna, BC.
