We Remember
PROCHNAVY, Walter
April 27, 1935 — December 6, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Walter Prochnavy. Wally was born in Junor, Saskatchewan on April 27, 1935 and left us December 6, 2021 at the age of 86.
Wally was married over 60 years to his wife, Mary. He leaves a big family legacy behind, with four children, Wendy (Doug), Sharon (Darcy-deceased), Carol (Darcy) and Brian (Lisa) (Wendy-deceased); 14 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Wally is also survived by 3 brothers, George, Orest and Gerry, and one sister, Clara.
Wally was colourful, and had a genuine love of life. He loved boating with the family when his children were growing up, and travelling by motorhome in retirement. He loved music and dancing, and was a great cook, who loved to host family and friends with great meals. His grandkids and great-grandkids have fond memories of “Waffle Wally” serving up stacks of waffles, fruit, and whipping cream.
He will be missed!
The family wish to extend our sincere thanks to his doctors, and the nurses at Interior Health.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Diabetes Canada, Kelowna General Hospital, or to a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to enable family and friends to attend.

So many of the attributes mentioned for Wally give me fond memories. I spent a lot of my childhood years with the Prochnavy family in their home, at their beach lot, with the whole family on a motor home trip to Spokane for Expo, enjoying the ski-doo, at winter, water skiing in summer, and just being a part of the family for so many years.. Jason and Lindsay’s New Orleans wedding was especially a memorable time with so many of the relatives together.. Wally loved his family and I will remember his laugh and “ giggles“ so well. He was definitely a great cook and his Chili was a winner every time. Thank you Wendy, Wally and Mary for being such a part of my life when I was young. You truly let me know what it felt like to be a part of a family.
RIP Wally.
I am so sorry to hear of Wallys passing my deepest sympathy to Mary and all the family. I worked with Mary and have known them both for many years. I will be in touch with you Mary.
Mary, Wendy, Sharon, Carol Brian and extended family,
Wishing you comfort and peace to face the days ahead and loving memories to hold in your heart.
Wally was such a joy to socialize with, from gatherings with the Bank of Montreal or intimate gatherings with family and friends he always had kind words or a funny joke. He was a wonderful host and an amazing cook. We feel very blessed to have known such a special man. Rest in Peace Wally, you will be missed.
