We Remember
PURVIS, Enid (née Archer)
January 9, 1934 — July 10, 2026
It is with profound sadness, and with hearts full of gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, that the family of Enid Purvis (née Archer) announces her peaceful passing on July 10, 2026, at the age of 92.
Enid was born on January 9, 1934, and lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, curiosity, and an extraordinary ability to make lasting friendships. Whether you met Enid as a child in Flin Flon, during nursing school in Winnipeg, while raising her family in Toronto, or later in Kelowna, chances are you counted yourself among her friends. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, remembered, valued, and loved.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack Purvis, the love of her life. Although Jack passed away nine years earlier, Enid embraced life with remarkable resilience. She continued to travel, entertain friends, stay closely connected with family, play competitive bridge, and eagerly adopted new technology. Long before many of her contemporaries, Enid was comfortably communicating with family and friends through email, text messaging, and playing bridge online, proving that curiosity and learning have no age limit.
Enid’s many talents reflected her vibrant personality. She was an accomplished curler, skipping championship teams in numerous bonspiels, and remained an enthusiastic follower of the sport throughout her life. She was an exceptional bridge player who enjoyed both local tournaments in Kelowna and countless online games with family and friends.
Professionally, Enid enjoyed an outstanding career with The Hudson’s Bay Company at Fairview Mall in Toronto, where she became one of the store’s most successful cosmetic sales consultants. Her warmth, honesty, and genuine care for people earned her loyal customers who returned year after year. She believed that every conversation mattered and every person deserved kindness.
Above all else, Enid treasured her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Dee; her son, John, and his wife, Nadia; and her cherished grandchildren: Ryan, Sean, Adam, and Dana.
She is also survived by her dear sister, Bobby; her niece Sara and husband Hugh, and their children Ella and Brett; her nephew Paul and wife Lyn, and their children Nico and Dillon. She will also be fondly remembered by Jack’s nieces Marilyn and Carol, Carol’s husband Paul, and their immediate and extended families, together with countless friends whose lives she enriched over nearly a century.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Chamberlain; the staff of Kelowna Central Hospice; Tante, Marilyn, Susan Adams, the “Shady Ladies”; and especially Dee for their compassionate care, friendship, and unwavering support.
Enid taught us that a life is measured not simply by years, but by friendships made, kindness shared, laughter enjoyed, and love freely given.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there.
I did not die.
