We Remember

RACCHI, Martha Jane (née Paul)

May 18, 1960 — June 10, 2023

Martha went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 10, 2023, at the age of 63. She was born in Brockville, Ontario, and raised in Montreal before her family settled in North Vancouver in 1975. She met her future husband Joe at the Londsdale White Spot, and they started dating in 1978. After graduating from high school, Martha travelled with two friends on a European trip that she spoke about for the rest of her life. Joe and Martha married in 1982 and moved with their son to Nanaimo in 1983 where they had their daughter Sarah Jane. In 1986, Joe’s work brought them to Kelowna, where they raised their family and grew their businesses.

Martha was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in every place she lived. She worked with youth groups and summer camps. At the Presbyterian church in Kelowna, she was on Children’s Education Committee and served as an Elder to other members of the congregation. She loved to be with her family, travel, swim, play cards, and puzzles. She loved to serve where she was needed whether it be at work, the church, or as the beloved matriarch of her family.

Martha is survived by her husband of 41 years, Guiseppe “Joe” Racchi; children Joshua and Sarah-Jane; grandchildren Alexandria (Lexie), Logan, Isabella (Bella), Gianna, and Owen; her brother Steven Paul; sister-in-law Robin Paul; brother-in-law Johan Louwerscheimer; brother-in-law Angelo & Nadia Racchi; brother-in-law John & Jill Racchi; sister-in-law Fila & Tony Testini; nieces and nephews Miriana, Nicolas, Adam, Nicola, Amanda, Lucas, Tom, Katy, Johan Jr., Benjamin, and Joseph; her cousins Beverly & Don Stephenson and their children William, Amy, and Dana; Doug & Liz Paul and their children Jeffrey, Christopher, and Steven. She was sadly predeceased by her mother, Jane Paul; sister Elizabeth “Liz” Louwerscheimer; and her father Richard “Dick” Paul.

Martha will be remembered as a kind, patient, and devoted woman. She was an incredibly hard-working, genuine, loving, and selfless woman. She will be missed dearly and remembered with love.

Condolences

  • Jane Bourke says:

Thank you to Martha and Joe for hiring me as a Babysitter for your two children Josh and Sarah-Jane, then as a Hostess/Bus girl at White Spot in Nanaimo, BC back in the 1980s. I also loved teaching Sunday School to Sarah and Josh Racchi and they told me on one occasion, that their Auntie Robin and Uncle Steven just had a baby. Then I said ,”That baby is my new nephew!” And they both replied, ” No he’s our new cousin!” I told Martha after the Sunday School class and we both had a fun chuckle. I will always remember Martha’s beautiful smile and her kind ways.
