We Remember

RANDLES, Theodore “Ted”

1929-2021

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
-Dylan Thomas

Gentle into the night did go Ted on December 3, 2021, with his beloved Simone at his side. Rage as he might against The Beast (his name for the cancer consuming his lungs) he succumbed after an inspiring battle. His light will forever shine in the hearts of his surviving siblings Genevieve “Jenny” & Lynn; his children Deborah (Lee Britton), Christine (Randall Swanson), Jane (Max Ostroff), Brant (Margo Stephenson), & Garth (Charlene Smith); and especially his wife Simone.

Born in Radville, SK on January 31, 1929, Ted attended school in Radville until his graduation in 1946. Ted met the love of his life while only 8 years old at St. Oliver’s School. Simone knew right from the moment they met there was something special about him, and they wed in 1951. Their relationship lasted 85 years until death did they part.

A dedicated railroader, Ted started as a brakeman in Radville and worked his way up to management positions in Saskatoon, SK and Winnipeg, MB. He maintained his interest in railroading well beyond retirement. He was a keen bridge player and could recall any bidding or playing of a hand well after it was done. He was also intensely interested in genealogy and would spend days researching and travelling to understand all branches of his (and anyone’s) family tree. Ted was a good friend to many colleagues and Radville-ites. Ted’s biggest love though was his family – his 2 remaining sisters, 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and Simone whom he adored.

Although Ted went gently into the night, he raged and battled The Beast with quiet stubbornness and grace – his light lives on.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
