We Remember

REDSCHLAG, Doris (née Beyer)

It is with Great Sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Doris, on October 21, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Doris, at the age of 54, was at home surrounded by her family when she left this earth for her heavenly home.  Her memory will be cherished by Brian, her husband of 35 years; her son Branden (Twyla) and their children; and her son Trent (Cassandra).  She is also lovingly remembered by her parents, Wilf and Trudi Beyer; her brother Curt Beyer; and her sister Betty-Lou Beyer.  She had a special place in her heart for her nephews Jarred (Melissa), Kris (Joanna), and Taylor (Alyssa); and nieces Marlies (Travis), Tricia (Jeff), Bre and Meli; as well as the large extended family and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.  She was sadly predeceased by her brother Michael Beyer.

Doris’ greatest joy came from being a proud mother to her amazing sons and “Gammi” to her precious grandkids, Tenley (8) and Bauer (3).  The highlight of her life were the moments she spent with them spoiling them as only she could.  Her family and close friends were central to her life, and she was happiest when providing them with delicious meals, amazing baking or snacks, making sure that everyone had enough to eat 24/7, and having a good time.

Summers were filled with memories spent on the family boat or hosting backyard pool parties – with plenty of food no matter where the adventure took place. When it came to family vacations or summer holidays with the nephews and nieces, Doris would jump into planning mode to organize the next great and memorable adventure or activity, always making sure that everyone was enjoying themselves.

She will be remembered for her loving infectious smile, which was even brighter than the pretty dresses she loved to wear, and it would light up a room.  Not even a diagnosis of terminal cancer could dim her bright light as she fought every day of her illness with unbelievable grace.  She consistently expressed appreciation for the care she received from her family that so lovingly cared for her until her last day.

The family would like to thank Dr. McCloskey for his tireless efforts and devotion in caring for Doris.  To Mona from Interior Health for her compassionate care, and the many Drs and Nurses at KGH and BC Cancer who graciously cared for Doris.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Reachout Youth Ministries, www.ryministries.net.

Due to COVID, a funeral Service will be remote and Livestreamed on Thursday, October 29th, 2020 at 2:00 PM. It will be recorded and available 24 hours after the service as well for your viewing.  To view the service, leave condolences for the family, or upload memories please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences”.

We love Doris and the whole Redgschlag family. Doris was so welcoming to us into her “tribe”. A quality I loved about Dorris was how she esteemed everyone around her. I really felt valued and of genuine interest when we talked, a rare quality of someone who knows the value and power of being a great listener. I also appreciated Doris for her example of love towards her family, and the hope she held out for seeing her family United. She was a beautiful example of Gods steadfast love and grace and she will be remembered by us fondly through our lifetime. Big hugs to Everyone for the space this loss has created in your lives. May God strengthen and fill your hearts as you move forward into this new chapter while her spirit lives on with you. .

  • Lesley-Anne Evans says:

Dear Doris, it has been many years since Trent and Claire were buddies, played in the backyard treehouse, and swam in the pool. It feels like forever since we moms dropped all our kids off at school and headed over to the coffee shop on South Pandosy to catch up and have a few laughs before getting on with our days. Some of our first connections with your family came after we moved to Kelowna and spent time together with our Trinity house group…remember those days of gathering at Harry and Cornelia’s place for feasts and fun. I think there is more, something about a fall home tour you organized for KCS when Traci shucked oysters in our front yard, and we filled a boat with kale and mums. The memories come and go for me, like the years have. All the photographs your beloved Brian collected and we got to share are such a beautiful expression of your life. Your smile. How you loved your family and community and gave so much of yourself. And even though it has been years since we’ve been close, I am sad to know you are gone. With my deepest sympathies to all your loved ones, who are a testament to how you are loved, and how greatly you are missed.
    Lesley-Anne

May God fill you with His hope for eternity ahead and days that hurt a little less and may you continue her legacy of care – some of her best qualities live on in you! Love and blessings to you all.

  • Kurt Redschlag says:

Dear Brian, Branden, Trent, and your respective families. This is a dark day in our family because a bright and beautiful light has been taken from us. A beloved wife, a precious mother/mother-in-law, and a super ‘Gammi’ has answered the heavenly call to enter her eternal home. Doris was a most loved and appreciated member of our extended family and will be sorely missed by all, but sweet memories of her will live on in our hearts. Brian and your family, while your hearts are understandably filled with pain, may you find comfort and solace in knowing she is now resting in the loving arms of her Lord. I will continue to stand with you in my thoughts and prayers.
    Kurt Redschlag

  • Debi and Barry Spurgeon says:

    Brian, Branden&Twyla and girls and
    Trent&Cassandra:

We are so sorry to hear that Doris’s battle with cancer has ended. Never easy to watch a loved one suffer. We met when we entrusted our son Tyler to your family as Kelowna Rocket billets. The night we first met and left Tyler in your care we knew he would be so well taken care of, and that started a long friendship for our families. Doris always cooked great meals for Tyler and made your home his home. After moving on in his hockey career, Tyler still visited your family every year and keeps in touch with you all. What we remember most about Doris is her beautiful smile and her caring for her family and others, and her joy for life.
Remember..she is always within your hearts and will be your guardian angel. May she be dancing in heaven!!
You are all in our prayers, with love
    The Spurgeon Family

  • Erika Podewils says:

My heart is heavy. Doris has been a friend for many years, working together on the Parents’ committee and stopping by with a Starbucks in hand. We laughed a lot and she had a fierce opinion when it came to her boys which I always appreciated. She was a budding Interior Decorator which was a true extension of her talents. My best memories are of late as we were both battling our health together. She was positive even on the bad days. She loved Jesus and she trusted in Him. I know she is out of pain and in His loving arms. Love to the family
