We Remember
REICH, Marlene Nan
December 24, 1943 — August 9, 2026
Marlene Reich passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 82.
Born on December 24, 1943, Marlene was, above all, kind. She had a warmth that drew people close and an artist’s eye that found beauty in life: a garden in bloom or a quiet afternoon by the water. She loved being outdoors, elbow-deep in soil in her garden, waiting patiently with a fishing line in hand, or picking berries with her family on a warm summer day. Camping trips with the people she loved were among her greatest joys, simple time spent together beneath open sky.
Marlene’s adventurous spirit meant that she travelled every chance she got, from a memorable cruise through the Panama Canal that took her from Los Angeles to New York to the many bus tours she enjoyed, with Laughlin, Nevada, being her favourite destination. She approached the world with curiosity and enthusiasm, always ready to pack a bag and see what was over the next horizon. At home, she was devoted to her animals, especially her beloved dog, Daisy, who was never far from her side.
In her later years, Marlene also found a new outlet for her creativity as a crafter. She painted glassware and created thousands of pieces over the years, turning her artistic eye and love of creating into a late-life career.
She also cherished the friendships and sense of belonging she found within her church community. Her faith and the connections she made there were an important part of her life, and she treasured the fellowship, kindness, and friendship of those she came to know through the church.
Marlene was predeceased by her husband, Art Reich; her parents, May and Jack Teasdale; and her stepdaughter, Ruth Canning.
She is survived by her children, Kelli Oracheski, Justin Aydein (Lara), Derek Oracheski, Denese McPhee (Ross); her grandchildren, Derek, Sofia; her step-children Randy Reich (Claire), and Robert Reich (Rhoda), Mike Canning; her step-grandchildren Cory, Tabitha, Ian, Renee, and Raidon; her step-great-grandson, Carter; her brother, Roger Teasdale; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Marlene will be remembered for her kindness, her creativity, and her endless appetite for adventure, and she will be deeply missed.

I’m so very sorry to hear of Marlene’s passing. I remember her bright red hair and her beautiful smile from when I was very young in Mercoal. Our families moved to different places when the coal mine closed, and I lost touch with her until I was living in Hinton and she was the store manager for the Sears Order Office. She gave me a part time position which got me out of the house and my house supplied with so many items we needed … at a discount at that! We lost touch again, except for occasional visits, but never really kept in touch. Then a couple of years ago, I got her phone number and started calling her just to catch up. We had such good talks, mostly about our family history. She remembered so many things about life in Mercoal that I can share with my family. I really hoped to see her at some point, but the distance made it difficult. I’ll miss my talks with her and the laughs we had. May she rest in peace.
Sorry for your loss cousin Tabitha and uncle Michael
