We Remember
REID, Allan
November 24, 1948 — November 22, 2024
On behalf of the Reid family, it is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Allan “Al” Joseph Reid on November 22, 2024, just shy of his 76th birthday, while awaiting surgery at Kelowna General Hospital. Al’s unexpected departure has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who knew him.
Al was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and was the second oldest of five children born to Aloysius and Theresa (née Smith) Reid. He was predeceased by his dear in-laws, Bernard and Stella (née Talbot) Tissington; his parents, Aloysius and Theresa (née Smith) Reid; his brother Peter; brother-in-law Martin Claussen: sister-in-law Laureen (Laurie nee Waterson) and niece Laurie Tissington. Al is survived and deeply loved by his wife, Bette; his son, Scott Reid (Meaghan); his daughter, Stacie (Scott Jellis); his grandsons, Jackson, Kaius, Emrys, and Calder; his granddaughter, Berkley; and honorary children, Kim Walker, Mitch Walker and Tyler Stojan; as well as his brothers Bob (Sharon), Mike (Debbie), Dave (Diane); and his sister, Audrey Claussen; brother-in-law Fred Tissington: brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dennis (Debbie) Tissington plus, numerous nieces and nephews.
Al met his wife, Bette, in Grande Prairie, AB at the Memorial Arena. Their first date was attending a Sadie Hawkins dance, and they became high school sweethearts. They were married for an incredible 52 years and were blessed with two children. They cherished the many years spent in Grande Prairie, raising their children and being close to family and friends.
Al was a beloved and active presence in the Grande Prairie community, making his mark both as a passionate entrepreneur and a devoted athlete. Sports weren’t just a pastime for Al, they were the heartbeat of his life. From his own days on the ice and at the baseball diamond, to his unwavering support as a coach, tireless supporter and advocate for his children and grandchildren, Al lived and breathed sports. Hockey and baseball were the sporting venues where he brought boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm, and a love for competition that energized everyone around him. Whether he was lacing up his skates, swinging a bat, or cheering from the sidelines, Al’s presence was always felt, and his joy was contagious.
In his downtime, one of Al’s greatest joys was creating lasting memories at the lake with loved ones, often sharing laughter over a nice meal and socializing around the fire with friends and family. The lake house became even more special when their children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends visited, filling it with love and laughter. Al’s wide circle of friends, both near and far, added to the richness of their life at the lake, with evenings spent around the fire creating even more cherished memories.
Al was a true people person. Whether reconnecting with old friends or meeting new acquaintances, his kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His presence was a source of joy, radiating warmth, humour, and an infectious zest for life. Whenever someone asked how he was doing, he would always respond with a cheerful, “Unbelievable, thanks!”, which was a reflection of his ever upbeat and uplifting spirit.
While we feel the profound sadness of his passing, we take comfort in knowing that his impact on our lives and the lives of many will never fade. Al may no longer be with us, but his memory will live on in the stories we share, the laughter we remember, and the love he so freely gave. He will be sadly missed, but forever cherished in our hearts.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers may be sent for the service, or memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

So sorry and sad to hear about “AJ”. I considered Al a true friend for many years and loved having him as a teammate. He always gave it his best and his upbeat personality was infectious! He will be sorely missed. Darla and I are thinking of you —- Bette and family.😌😌
Though I have known Bette and Al for a long time, as we went to high school together, most of my memories were small ones, as did not know Al that well, other than our visits at school reunions later on. We reconnected after they retired to Kelowna, as I am living south of Penticton. I visited, and stayed with them a few times, and they came down, and stayed with me, and our friendship grew, as we did have common friends and memories of high school. Every time I was with them, my appreciation for both of them grew, as they were both just down to earth, decent people, that always left me feeling good with our friendship. To say he will be missed is an understatement, as his positive attitude was infectious. He won’t be forgotten, and just pray for his family with this devastating loss. His memories will certainly live on. RIP Al, miss you already.

We pray that the lord will bring peace and comfort to your weary broken hearts as you work through the grief of your loss.
