We Remember

RIMELL, Phillip
—
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Phillip “Phil” Rimell on January 26, 2025, in Kelowna, BC. Phil was born in Vancouver, BC the oldest of three boys. He was raised by his mother, Constance, and his stepfather, Ken. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Barb; their children: Diane (Gerry) Facciotti, Dan Rimell, and Kathy (Tony) Russo; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Phil moved to White Rock, BC during high school and attended Semiahmoo Secondary School. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara, in 1957, and they remained married for 67 years.
Phil had a fulfilling career, working for the Surrey School District before moving to Kelowna in 1977, where he continued his work with the Kelowna School District until his retirement in 1996.
Outside of work, Phil had a variety of interests, including golf, fishing, and woodworking. Phil was always busy building furniture, new sheds, and renovating cupboards. Known to family and friends as “Mr. Fix-it”, he was definitely a “Phil” of all trades.
In 1967, Barb’s parents, along with Phil and Barb, acquired a property at Green Lake in the Cariboo. Phil lovingly built the first cabin and continued working on it for most of his life. The cabin became a four-season playground for the family. Family and friends fondly remember their adventures with Phil and his shenanigans, which always made for good laughs and fun times. He was a great storyteller and jokester.
After retiring, Phil and Barb took off in their newly acquired motorhome, travelling BC and western states. They eventually made Yuma, Arizona, their winter home, where they enjoyed sunny winters for the next 20 years. They made many lifelong friendships from both Canada and the U.S. and shared countless fun stories from their adventures.
Phil will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of laughter, craftsmanship, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
