We Remember
ROBINSON, Lawrence (Larry / Gus) James
—
Born October 10, 1937 in Berwyn, Alberta and passed away on January 24, 2015.
Predeceased by his parents Orville and Velma Robinson. Larry was raised in Ocean Falls, B.C. and also met his wife May there. They were high school sweethearts and married on June 28, 1957. They raised 3 children, Dean (Sigi), Rhonda (Gary) and Audrey (Donna) and have 4 grandchildren, Brittany, Zach (Morgan), Amy (Rob) and Gare. They had just celebrated the birth of their first great grandchild, Benjamin. He was also survived by one brother Lloyd (Agnes) Robinson in Abbotsford, BC. Dad was a proud father, father-in-law and grandfather. He supported his children and grandchildren in every endeavour and dream that they had. He was always our number one fan. Larry loved to tell jokes and had an incredible sense of humour. His integrity and strength of character is evident in the amazing number of friends he has left behind. Larry worked in the pulp and paper industry in Ocean Falls, BC, Campbell River, BC, Prince George, BC, Mackenzie, BC, Prince Albert, SK and Whitecourt, AB. He retired from the mills in 2002 and then he and May embarked on another career, owning and operating a taxi business in Whitecourt. In 2007, they moved to Kelowna, where Dad could finally dedicate his full attention to his passion of golf. Larry’s love of the West Coast of BC never waned; he loved to talk about Ocean Falls, the life-long friendships that were forged there and of course the “fishing tales.” Rest easy, Dad, go fishing, play a round of golf… If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Please accept my deepest condolences May and the family at this sad time. I knew Larry from ANC in Whitecourt; he always made me laugh! He’ll be missed.
So sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. I got to know Larry when I came to work for him at ANC. It was a pleasure working with him and I must say he could be quite a character. I can still see that little twinkle in his eye when he would tell a good joke. May, my thoughts are with you and your family. xo (this pic is from ANC’s first picnic back in 1989)
Deep regrets to the family-especially May (the dragon lady) and Audrey. Larry always beat me in crib. I suspected he was looking at the cards reflection off my eye glasses. Now I will never know. What a great guy! He played a significant role in our start-up- purchasing supplies and May seeing we were all housed. A great one two punch. Thanks for wonderful memories.
Gary
As a coworker right from the beginning of ANC and a one time business partner Larry brought his sense of humour and generous spirit to every occaision. Shy was not a word you could use in describing Larry’s approach to life. He brought fresh perspectives to anything he was involved in and taught us all that sharing those ideas was what we had to do to grow.
Thanks Larry and thank you May for sharing his life with us.
Our sincere condolences to all of you at this very difficult time. Sending love and prayers for strength to you all.
With love, Lori & Nick
Thank you Audrey for letting us know that Larry passed away. It was hard to hear the devastating news as the last time we saw him he was hale and hearty. Our hearts go out to all of you. It is a terrible loss and the thought of not being able to see him anymore doesn’t seem reasonable in the least. Larry was much loved by all and his laugh and sense of humour were infectious. He loved his family and was a great example of kindness and consideration. Gentleman Larry you will be missed.
So sorry to hear this news. Our thoughts are with you. Many memories of Larry and Mackenzie days, judo and sports store.

Deepest sympathy on the loss of Larry — he was a great guy and we enjoyed golfing together and marshaling at the Mission Creek Golf Course. May memories of all the good years you shared together help sustain you in your sorrow. Pete & Marcie Hlushko
I met Larry 2 years ago at Mission Creek Golf Course where he was a wonderful marshall. I will miss his kindness, his jokes, his unselfish help, his courtesy and of course, his tomatoes! He will be missed!
Gus and I were on the same Charleson High Chieftains basketball team back in 1954-55. Of course he was the best of the best in good ol’ Ocean Falls and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him throughout his life.

We were so happy that we got to spend a nice evening with you at Whitecourt (about 15 years ago??) and to share some wonderful old times. It is amazing that even though many, many years go by you never forget the wonderful memories and times from the Ocean Falls days.
Our condelences May to you and your family.
We were so sorry to hear of the passing of your ‘dear Gus’. John and I were so glad we got to share an evening with you in Whitecourt (approximately 15 years ago)and talk of some of our old memories from Ocean Falls. It is truly amazing that even though many, many years have gone by we still remember the wonderful friends and times we had together in Ocean Falls.
Our condolences to you and your family May.
We are very sad to hear of Larry’s passing. Larry and I shared emails almost daily. Will miss all thoses jokes and stories we shared. While in Whitecourt we shared golf, curling, fishing days and business. Larry worked hard to locate people and companies with integrity to deal with. When he found that he was the most loyal person one could deal with. Larry will always be someone that we will remember. Our respect for both Larry and May will never be forgotten. Love and condolences to you May & your family! God bless you and thanks for sharing your loved one Larry.
Dear May & Family, we were so sorry to hear about Larry’s passing. We haven’t seen you guys since you moved from Whitecourt, but will always remember you both.
Sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. I met Larry in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan when he was the manager of the pulp mill stores inventory. I was only 21, but he was very friendly and made new employees like me feel welcome. Being from the prairie, I took interest when he was telling me of a place in BC called Ocean Falls. I had never heard of somewhere so remote, the only way to get there was by boat or plane. I specifically remember Larry telling me of a fishing story that took place in the harbor. I don’t recall if it was him or someone else, but the fisherman fought with a huge tuna for several hours before they finally had to land it with a rifle. It was that big. Just this week I was watching a show about the coast line of BC. There was a segment on Ocean Falls and it made me think of Larry and where he moved on to after Prince Albert. It was a pleasure to know Larry and to learn of his home town of which he was so proud. My condolences to Larry’s family.
