Romei, Giovanna

December 4, 1936 — March 21, 2012

Giovanna (Verna) Romei was born in Celano, Italy on December 4, 1936, the eldest of four children and passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. She immigrated with her family to Kelowna in 1953 where she met and married the love of her life, Luigi Lorenzo Romei (deceased 2010). In June 1965, they moved their young family from Glenmore to Winfield where Giovanna became an active member of the farming, business and Catholic communities.

Giovanna was known for her warmth, indelible spirit and positive attitude. Her home was always open. She was famous for her excellent cooking. When complimented, she would remark that it was made with “love.” She was also known for her beautiful flower gardens. Giovanna loved the adventure of travel but her heart was at home with her family.

Giovanna’s greatest joy was her children: Mike (Filomena), Mario, Assunta (Mark), Lorenzo (Shawna) and Rita (Mark). She adored and was adored by her thirteen grandchildren: Lorenzo, Letizia, Loren, Mariah, Giovanna, Robert, Shameera, Saul, Jack, Isabella, Mark, Angelina and Diego. She leaves behind her sister Marisa, brother Romolo, sisters-in-law Cathy and Linda, and numerous nieces and nephews. Whether you called her Mom, Nonna, Auntie or Friend, she touched everyone she met and will be sorely missed. She has gone home to God where she will be reunited with Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, her beloved younger brother Marcello and her nephew Emilio.

Services will be held at the Parish of St. Edward at 11123 Okanagan Centre Road, Lake Country, BC: Prayers – Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 7:00 pm; Mass of Christian Burial – Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:00 am.

      Terry and I have always enjoyed your mother and family. A lot of memories for a special lovely lady, She always made you feel so welcome and when she saw you her eyes would light up, and she always had time to talk, she loved her family and life.we will miss her

    Cara Comare and Dear Romei Family,

    We are so sorry for the passing of Comare Giovanna. Your dear Mother was a very kind and loving person. Her smile and good advice was like a ray of sunshine. Comare always knew how to help, give encouragement, and strength to others in need. She served (and continues to serve) the Lord. Comare led by example, and she was never afraid or hesitant to “fight the good fight”. Comare Giovanna has touched the lives of many people with dignity, sincerity, and love.     St. Edward’s and your family are synonymous in our fondest memories. Your Mom was an inspiration to our entire community. Her ‘LOVE’ was always evident in the many CWL catering projects that she generously shared with Danielle. She will continue to serve us all in our ‘future life’.
