We Remember
ROSTAD, Phyllis Muriel
August 21, 1926 — February 27, 2022
In loving memory of Phyllis Muriel Rostad, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She passed away on February 27, 2022, in her 96th year.
Phyllis was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, August 21, 1926, to Alice Maud (née Bailey) and Thomas Charles Bowers.
Raised and educated in Saskatoon, Phyllis first worked in the office for Dunn & Bradstreet. On June 18, 1946, she and Jens Hubert “Ross“ Rostad eloped and married in North Battleford, SK.
The couple then moved to Cadomin, Alberta where Ross worked in the coal mine and Phyllis had mine pit ponies stop by her door for treats.
In early 1947, Phyllis joined Ross in Levack, Ontario. Their two children, Dallas Irvin and Bonnie June were born and raised there.
Phyllis was a great homemaker, seamstress, and for a time figure skating instructor. She worked at the medical centre in Levack as a receptionist and then at the post office for many years, retiring as Postmaster in 1983. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was an excellent scrabble, cribbage and euchre player. She also enjoyed singing and participated in many sing songs at Three Links Manor during her later years.
After retirement, Phyllis and Ross moved west in 1985, settling in Kelowna, BC. They made many wonderful friends and were active members of St. Paul’s United Church. They hosted social evenings at their home where they were joined by their circle of friends playing games and enjoying potluck meals.
Phyllis lost the love of her life after 62 years of marriage on February 14, 2008. For the last 12 years, Phyllis lived at Three Links Manor and was adored by her many caregivers.
Phyllis will be deeply missed by son, Dallas (Paulette) and daughter, Bonnie (Anatol); grandchildren, Tobias Korolow and Tanya (Justin Fitzpatrick); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Charles and Albert, and sisters Sylvia, Dorothy and Winnifred (Sam Williams).
Special thanks to Dr Gayle Klammer and the dedicated staff at Three Links Manor for caring for her so lovingly over the past 12 years.
At this time, there will be no service. Flowers are graciously declined, but you are welcome, if you wish, to donate to KGH Foundation or Alzheimer’s Society in her name.
