We Remember
RUSHTON, Gerald Walter
May 22, 1929 — February 21, 2019
On Thursday, February 21, 2019, in Kelowna, BC, Gerald Walter Rushton, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 89. Gerald was born on May 22, 1929 in Melita, MB to Horace and Augustine Rushton. Gerry earned his journeyman printer’s designation and worked for the Kenora Miner & News and later at the Calgary Herald until his retirement in 1991. On June 2, 1951 he married the love of his life, Rose. They raised one son, Michael (Karen)and two daughters, Carol (Jim) and Roberta (Marc).
Gerry will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Kurtis, Joanne, Richard, Michelle, Troy, and Victoria; six great-grandchildren, Kenorrah, Hector, Shea, Rory, Hudson, and Brooke; and his beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his dad Horace; mother Augustine; brother Robert; and sister Marie. Gerry was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He always had a cheerful disposition, great story and was a friend to everyone.
Gerry loved to visit Kenora, ON, where he and Rose met and raised their family. He enjoyed being outdoors, boating and fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever he could. Gerry was strong of faith and always believed that saying a little prayer could go a long way.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm in the clubhouse at Monticello, 3890 Brown Road, West Kelowna, BC, time to be announced (check this page for an update). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, www.heartandstroke.ca.
