We Remember

RYALL, Gertrude Matilda
April 5, 1920 — December 7, 2023
Gertrude Matilda Ryall passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on December 7, at the age of 103 years. She was predeceased by her husband Carmen, her parents William and Helena Kaiser, three sisters, one brother, two nephews, and three nieces. Left to mourn her loss are her niece, Irene Switzer and grandnephew Orrin (Colleen) Switzer from Prince George, as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews in Alberta.
Gertrude was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta on April 5, 1920, to William and Helena Kaiser. She was the youngest in her family, and at an early age it was evident she had an unusual singing voice. In her earlier years, Gertrude had a career in the oil industry. After living in Calgary for a number of years, Gertrude and her husband Carmen retired and moved to Kelowna, BC. Gertrude remained active working the night shift in admitting at Kelowna General Hospital; serving as a hostess at Springfield Funeral Home; directing “The Evangel Gems”, a senior choir at Evangel Church; and leading the “Happy Hymnals”, a musical group that performed at senior complexes and churches. Gertrude also sang solos at any public functions she was invited to perform at. Music was such a big part of her life and she was very faithful in using her gifts.
Even though Gertrude was busy in the community, she was also very hospitable, entertaining many people in her home throughout the years. She had an incredible zest for life and loved people, travel, and music. In her latter years, as she needed more care, she was very grateful for the help she received from her friends Ed and Bev Smith and Anne Rauser.
Those who loved and cared for Gertrude wish to express deep appreciation to the whole staff at Spring Valley Care Center for the professional and loving care she received. Gertrude was very happy living there, and with her positive attitude to life and her vibrant faith, she brought joy and light to the community.
A Graveside Service to honour the life of Gertrude, officiated by Rev. Will Sohnchen, will be held on MONDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the KELOWNA MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY, 1991 Bernard Ave, Kelowna, BC

We will miss you Aunt Gertrude. Your Wonderful smile and contagious laughter. Such joy. We know you are already leading and singing in a Heavenly Choir. We remember the many Kelowna visit. Dinner and Dairy Queen milkshakes. Happy times.
I am sad for the family of this vibrant woman. I remember her voice like a bird so angelic when she sang at Evangel
and her duets with Anne Rauser. She didn’t know me but I certainly knew and appreciated her.
Missing all the memories of my Great Aunt Gertrude. Many visits to Kelowna growing up. Lots of singing…and even at my wedding. I’m sure your sisters, nieces and nephews will be having fun with you in heaven! Rest in peace.
