We Remember
SAKIC, Nikola
January 3, 1939 — May 26, 2024
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Nikola Sakic; a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He passed peacefully in the morning of the 26th of May 2024, leaving behind his wife Sabina Sakic; daughter Blanka Sakic; stepson Eddie Jakopic; stepdaughter Kristina Jakopic; 2 grandchildren, Matteo Unkovic and Teyah Unkovic; and 5 step-grandchildren, Kaleb Monti, Kayden Jakopic, Melina Monti, Natalija Jakopic, and Samantha Wale. He now goes to join those who passed before him, including his son, Stanko Sakic.
Nikola, widely known as Nick, was born on January 3, 1939, in Studenci, Croatia. As a young man, at age 21, he immigrated alone to Canada, where he had an amazing career with BC Gas for over 30 years. During this time, he also became passionate and skilled as a professional bowler, winning many cash prizes and more trophies than one can even display. Some of his tournaments can still be viewed on TSN archives! Along with his love of bowling, he also enjoyed the game of golf. After retirement, it became one of his favourite pass times.
Those who knew Nick will remember his talent for telling tall tales and his knack for comically embellishing any story. He could make anyone laugh and was a true jokester at heart. Alongside his humour, Nick had a big heart and cared deeply for his family. Even when he couldn’t find the words to express his feelings, his love for them was evident in his actions and the way he held them close in his heart.
Thankfully, Nick left an abundance of great memories and stories to cherish, always remembering with lots of laughter and love. He will be greatly missed by many, including his immediate and extended family, and many friends.
May he and his son play golf forever…
Always loved, never forgotten.
At this time, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Micheal J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation or to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
