We Remember

SANDHU, Jatinder Singh “Tander”

April 11, 1971 — January 2, 2021

Tander was born April 11, 1971, in India and was raised in Sparwood, BC. He passed away at the age of 49 in Kelowna, BC on January 2, 2021, surrounded by love. Tander leaves behind his father Balwant Singh Sandhu; his sisters Amar Kler and Kam Boparai; his daughters Savanna Sandhu and Shawnay Sandhu, and their mother Rami Sandhu; and an endless amount of family and friends. He is predeceased by his mother Gurdev Kaur Sandhu.

He had a passion for all sports, especially hockey. Some of his happiest moments were spent teaching the kids how to skate, coaching their soccer games, and playing hockey with them. What made him the most happy was just being surrounded by family. He lit up every room he was in. He made everyone around him laugh and brought such joy to all; with his contagious laughter. His kindness and generosity was recognized by all; he had the biggest heart and cared for every single person he met. He was one of the most intelligent people you’d meet, and showcased his endless amount of knowledge in all aspects of his life. His incredibly strong mind and heart is what got him through the toughest days, which inspired all those around him. He battled congestive heart failure and then pulmonary lung disease with superhuman strength. His family and friends will miss him always, and he will live on in his beautiful daughters Savanna and Shawnay.

A private Funeral Service will be held to honour Tander. Due to the current pandemic restrictions it will be by invitation only. However, the family would like to invite all who want to pay their respects to join by Livestream on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at 1:00 pm. (below)

My deepest condolences go out to the whole family. “Tander” was always one of the good guys. May it bring you all comfort to know how deeply he will be missed by those who grew up with him. We all wondered where he ended up in his life after the Sparwood days. Though many of us have lost touch we still remember him back when we all started at MVES. We grew up with a rich melting pot of cultures and all followed our own paths in life but to those of us who grew up with him, he will always hold a special place in our hearts! He was funny and kind and the first one who could teach us all how to “moonwalk”. You left a Mark on our hearts none of us will ever forget. You truly were one of the good guys! ❤️

  • Larissa Lasaleta says:

I did not have the fortune of meeting Tander Sandhu personally, but I have been close friends with his daughter, Shawnay, these past couple of years. I cannot imagine just how difficult this fight must have been for her and those close to her father, but she never gave up or lost hope. Over the years, I’ve learned that she is not only caring, thoughtful and strong, but also deeply passionate about her family and those she loves. Her character and the connection she shares with her father reflect the man he will be remembered as. My heart goes out to the family and friends grieving the loss of Tander Sandhu, may he rest in peace.
