SARAN, Mehar Singh

August 15, 1933 — September 22, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mehar Singh Saran, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He touched our lives in profound ways and leaves behind a legacy that will forever warm our hearts.

Mehar was born in the village of Chupkiti on August 15, 1933, to late parents Bhagat Singh and Aas Kaur. He was driven by his passion for teaching, which he brought with him from his village. His journey began with a career dedicated to education. In 1966, he embarked on a new chapter in his life by immigrating to Canada. He began his Canadian journey working at the mill. His impeccable work ethic led to him pursuing a remarkable journey that would span decades and continents.

In 1970, Mehar achieved a significant milestone by earning his Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary. He embraced the role of an educator, teaching math, science, and physics in Alberta until 1979 when he moved to British Columbia, settling in Abbotsford. There, he pursued his love of farming and real estate continuing to make a positive impact in the community.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Surjit Kaur Saran; and sons Lakhbir and Jasvir Saran. He is survived by his sister Bachan Kaur Alamwala; daughter Navdeep Kaur Brar; and son-in-law Gurmeet Brar; daughters-in-law Aneetpal and Harjinder; cherished grandchildren Veenu & Jazz Dhaliwal, Arman & Reena Saran, Govind & Gagan Saran, Mavin Brar; Min & Ken Sandhu, Rin & Steven Purewal, Pinder & Natinder Saran, and Simrit Saran; cherished great-grandchildren Arian, Jaivyn, Samiya, Mila, Zayn, Arjun, Jeevan, Reyna, and Rehaan.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that friends and well-wishers consider donating to Central Okanagan Hospice House.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Mehar Singh Saran’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 12:00 PM, at Fraser River Funeral Home, 2061 Riverside Road, Abbotsford, BC.  Followed by a Prayer Ceremony held at Khalsa Diwan Society, 33094 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford, BC.
