We Remember

SARAN, Rattan Singh

It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our Father, Grandfather “Baba”, Great-grandfather, Rattan Singh Saran, known by many as “Singh”, on September 14, 2018 at the age of 87 in Kelowna; survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Gurmit Kaur, sister Rattani Kaur Choong, daughters Baksho (Daljit), Runjet and sons Tarsem (Pravinder), Sukh (Pam), and Gurmaj, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his son Prem, sister Nachater Kaur Sandhu and brother Sucha Singh, parents Dalip Kaur and Bishan Singh Saran.

Singh was born in the Village of Chak, state of Punjab, India and immigrated to Canada with his brother Sucha Singh on May 12, 1964. He was sponsored by his father Bishan Singh who in turn was graciously sponsored by his sister Rao Kaur Johal. Upon arrival to Canada, Singh was hit by a car while crossing Highway 33 and spent a number of years recovering from the accident and lived with a leg injury all his life, rarely ever complaining about any pain. Singh immigrated his family from India on July 27, 1969 to improve the quality of life for his family. He loved Canada and was a proud Canadian. Singh worked as a farm laborer until he retired at the age of 65.Singh was a very passive person who enjoyed gardening and volunteering at the Okanagan Sikh Temple. He enjoyed watching Wrestling, Pro-Kabaddi League, The Price is Right along with Wheel of Fortune with his loving wife. He also loved celebrating his birthdays with family.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.ca or the Lung Association, www.lung.ca.
