We Remember

SAWINSKI, Hildegard Lotte

March 1, 1925 — November 26, 2013

In the presence of her family, Hildegard Lotte Sawinski went to be with the Lord on November 26, 2013 at the age of 88. She is survived by her three loving daughters; Inge Dixon (David) of Hamilton, ON, Heidi McLaughlin (Jack) of West Kelowna, and Brigitte Kaplun (Bernie) of Lake Country; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Sadly predeceased by husband Wilhelm Sawinski in 1996, and daughter Waltraut in 1947 at age 2. Hildegard was born in Gaiken Latvia to parents Robert and Lydia Mantai, the youngest of six children. During WWII the family was re-settled to Wreschen, Poland where she met and married Wilhelm Sawinski in 1942. The marriage was blessed with four daughters. In 1954 the family immigrated to Canada and settled in Prince George where they lived until 1976 when they made Kelowna their home. Hildegard was devoted to her family. Nothing gave her more pleasure than having her family gathered around her table enjoying a meal together. She loved to cook and bake for them, and sending home care packages filled with her wonderful baking. Above all else she loved Jesus and lived her life with a heart of thankfulness and quiet confidence. She was active in Grace Baptist Church for as long as her health allowed. She sang in the choir and enjoyed serving in the ladies ministries, helping wherever she saw a need. A special thanks to Dr. Jan McIntosh and his staff, the nurses at Kelowna’s Hospice House for their compassionate care during her final days, and to all at The Chatsworth. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 1:30 pm at Grace Baptist Church, 1150 Glenmore Drive, Kelowna, with Reverend Eduard Hahn officiating. Interment to follow at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ‘Chain of Love’ Brazilian Orphanage c/o Grace Baptist Church, or to the Kelowna Hospice House, 2035 Ethel St., Kelowna, BC V1Y 2Z6. • Keana Ready says:

My name is Keana. I worked at The Chatsworth about 3 years about for 2 years. In those two year I got to know your mom very well. She was always my favorite. She such a humble, kind and faithful woman. I remember coming to see her and she always had a smile on her face and something kind to say.

I am sorry that God decided to take her soon so, especially before Christmas. He always has a special place for someone as loving as her.

I will be thinking of her and you on Dec 6th, and wish that I could have been there to say goodbye.

My thoughts and prays are with you.
