We Remember

SCANTLAND, Jimmy Albert “Jim”
June 2, 1964 — June 26, 2025
With family at his side, Jim Scantland passed away on June 26, 2025, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 61.
Born in Westlock, Alberta, Jim was one of four brothers who grew up side by side, all close in age. He later built a life full of love and adventure with his wife of 38 years, Susan. Together they raised Ian (Madison) and Gabrielle (Klein), and Jim found special joy in being “Gramps” to Phoebe and Reuben.
Jim enjoyed the good things: time on the water, carving down snowy hills, a game of cribbage, a brisk walk down the street (but, he would stop to chat to anyone and everyone), and a glass of wine with cheese on the side. But most of all, he treasured time with his family and friends.
He is also survived by his mother, Madelain; brothers Don (Patti), Ed (Carol), and Maurice; brother-in-law Robert Fraser; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Eugene.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Blood Services. A donation of blood can help save a life.

So sad to hear of this news. Jim was always such an upbeat and positive person. I have very fond memories of volleyball tournaments, track and field with Jim. And many great bon fires. He was a very talented athlete, and man could he run the 400 M. Lifting up the entire Scantland family, so sorry for your loss, my condolences.
My heart aches for you Karen, Ian and Gabrielle….special memories from Trnity and also friendships with my grandchildren!!😥 May our Lord comfort you and fill your heart with His peace!!🙏🙏
My sympathies to Sue and his family. Jim was a dear friend for many years from snowmobiling everyday after school, often on weekends with Darren, Andy, Denis, Greg, et al to pick up Doris and ride the fields. His smile was infectious: not knowing if he had something funny to say, or a goofy idea that he wanted our friend group to do – of which we happily obliged him, lol. I remember driving him to classes at the U of A after his motorbike accident which he was seriously injured and was put back together with steel plates and screws in his legs. I was proud to be the MC at his wedding to Sue. We stayed in touch over the years. He would connect when he was in town for business. But that lil stinker never said a word about being sick!!! May you rest in peace and you will be missed 💔
We are so heartbroken about this news. Jim, you were a bright light, a humble soul, a caring person who truly valued your family and your community. I am reflecting on many memories: your amazing performance with track and field running in high school; winning at provincials, your friendship and acceptance to all of us in high school, taking the girls to Dairy Queen in St Albert from Morinville during lunchtime, embracing the punk movement with your funky Adam Ant music and wild bright pants, you as our understanding roommate in at University of Alberta, how you stepped in to help coach cross country running with my husband Tom at Kelowna Senior Secondary, and how you jumped in to help friends and family so many times when they were in need. Our hearts go out to you; Sue, Ian, Gabrielle, and family for your loss of this beautiful bright and caring spirit. Jim, you will be so deeply missed by all of us!
I remember Jim as a great athlete in track and field and volleyball; but most importantly he was a great guy. He will be missed.
I remember Jim from High School and he was always doing the track and field. He could run like the wind and win lots of ribbons. He was always smiling and being goofy. His pictures now have not changed much from high school, still smiling. My condolences to Jim’s family and RIP Jim
My deepest condolences to all of Jim’s family during this trying time. May your love and memories of Jim help you get through these trying times.
We were saddened learning of Jim’s passing. Please accept our condolences.
Our deepest condolences to Jim’s family during this difficult time!! Our prayers are with the family.🙏❤️.
Jim was always such a positive and upbeat person, I remember him for his love of live music. We would often go to see bands play dressed up in our very stylish 80’s gear. I especially loved his peterpan getaway boots. We would dance all night… then he fell in love and found his dance partner for life. Sorry for your loss Sue. Hugs to you and your family.
So very sad that the world has lost the best of people. Jim will forever occupy a place in my heart as a friend and a brother. Jim brought fun and laughter into my life. Every memory makes me smile, memories of camping, playing cards, cooking up grilled cheese sandwiches, heart to heart chats, movie nights and road trips to see “the band”, no matter the distance or the weather. Best of all might be refining our dance moves to 1980’s New Wave music. The license place of my first car was JMZ (Jim’s) 009. Forty years on and the car is long gone but I still have the plate. Always Jim’s, Agent 009.
To the Scantland Family, to Rob and especially to you Sue, Ian and Gabrielle, I offer of heartfelt sympathy. Sue, you made Jim happy from Day 1.
I’ll be watching the heavens for the new and brilliant Jimmy Albert Star.
Take good care. Much love, Shauna
Our deepest sympathy to you Sue, Ian, Gabrielle and your beautiful family. Praying that you feel the presence of His love as you walk these roads without Jim.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I went to junior high with Jim. I remember his smile most of all. I also remember he got along with everyone, always cheerful and kind. Again I am so sorry for your family’s loss.
