Art Schellenberg passed away in his home at Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna, BC on September 3, 2013 following a brief battle with leukemia. Art is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lily; his three children Leon (Sonja) of Winnipeg, MB, Linda of Abbotsford, BC, and Lyle (Linda) of Salem, OR; and his three grandchildren Angela of Salem OR, John of Bend OR, and Michael of Abbotsford, BC. The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation for the excellent care provided by Sun Pointe Village staff and the Palliative Nursing Team. The family would also like to extend their gratitude for support and care provided by Dixie and Dale Manson, Deanna Rempel, Whitney Starr, and Peggy and Earle Johnston during this difficult time. Art was born in Arden, MB on April 14, 1932 and spent many years in Gladstone, MB where he had a plumbing and heating business. In 1972, Art and Lily moved to BC, first to Shuswap Lake and then to Langley, BC, where he started Pacific Underground Installations. He expanded his underground drilling business into Salem OR in 1983. When they retired in 1991, Art and Lily spent their retirement living between their properties on the Cowlitz River near Toledo, WA and Rancho Casa Blanca in Indio, CA.  Eventually in 2000, they built a house at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Penticton and lived there for 11 years before finally moving to Sun Pointe Village in 2011. Art was known for always having a project on the go and for his creative and unique approach to problem solving. He spent his retirement RV’ing, golfing, tending to his flower gardens (he especially loved his roses), and playing cards with friends and family. Art was a kind, selfless and generous man who was devoted to his wife and family, who he put above all else. He will be dearly missed by many whose lives have been touched by him.
