We Remember
SCHMIDT, Austin
—
It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Austin Michael Lee Schmidt on October 5, 2019. Austin was predeceased by his father Shawn Oldford on June 12, 2018. He leaves to mourn his mother, Melissa Schmidt; sister Aimee (Jesse) Hannebauer, brother Daniel Schmidt (Michaela McDonald) and niece Waverly; and grandmother Lois Robson all of Kelowna, BC. Austin will forever be loved and missed by Kaye Davidson and Clarence Breitkreutz and their family Erin, Frank, Mitchell and Mackenzie Barton; Melanie Hennig; friend and roommate Chris Lunt; aunt Sherry Oldford Maynard and her daughter Alexandria of Corner Brook, NFL; and brother Jordan Oldford of Ontario; as well as many aunts, uncles, and friends.
A young man with a winning smile and a great love of life, Austin lived all of his 21 years in Kelowna. He found a loving home for many years with Shelley Lynn Mazur and her family, then came to live with Kaye and Clarence at the age of nine. It takes a village to raise a child and Austin had many people over the years in his life that were instrumental in helping him become the young man he was. Kaye and Clarence would like to thank the following people who have been on this journey with Austin: Penni Botham; Shannon Andrews; Echo Renwick; Kirsten Charles; Kelowna Boys and Girls Club; Curling Club; Access Resources for all the help and enjoyment he got; Sonja, Mike, David, Cassidy, Louisa, Erika, Tyler at Access Resources just to name a few; our friends and neighbors who always watched over us, especially Jack and Ruby Clark.
A service in honor of Austin will be held Friday, October 18, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home located at 2020 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC. Donations would be graciously received in Austin’s memory to the Kelowna Gospel Mission at kelownagospelmission.ca. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com.

Kaye, Clarence and family,
I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I had the honour of getting to know Austin during his time at RSS and enjoyed many a spirited debate with him. He could always out reason me and often won. He was insightful and wise beyond his years, yet also so young at heart. The service today was a beautiful tribute to him. Jan Arneson

It’s been two years since Austin’s passing, and I know I may be a bit late to give my condolences but not a day goes by where I don’t think of him. He used to be a good friend of mine from the boys and girls club in our high school days and those moments with him I will cherish forever. I’m so sorry for Austin’s loss.
My best memories with Austin I will say would be access and the boys and girls club
