We Remember

SCHMIDT, Marian “Gladys”

Gladys passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023, at her residence in Kelowna, BC, in her 83rd year. She leaves behind many friends and relatives, which include two children and three grandchildren.

Born in Port Alberni, BC, and raised in Wellington, BC, Gladys touched many lives throughout her lifetime. Her compassion to others was greatly appreciated by many and was a part of her amazing, giving nature. Volunteering with the RCMP Victim Services (in both Chilliwack, BC and Penticton, BC) was a passion of hers and one she embraced so well.

By her request, no service will be held. Gladys’ cremated remains will rest with her parents on Vancouver Island at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made, in Gladys’ name, to the SPCA of your choice or RCMP Victim Services Program in your community.

Condolences

  • Debbie Phillips says:

RIP Gladys, such a great friend to my mom Kathy for many years. Always had such a zest for adventure and fun.

  • carol adams says:

My condolences. Gladys was a great friend for many years, unfortunalely lost touch with her these last many years as well.
She was always fun to be with and ready with a helping hand at any time. Her years of working with the Victims Service in Chilliwack were I am very sure, were one of her joys and that she was well appreciated.

  • Helen Slade says:

I am so sorry to learn Gladys Schmidt has passed away. Gladys trained me as a Chilliwack RCMP Victim Service Worker, so I consider myself one of the lucky ones. She never coddled (thank goodness) but she never failed to follow up in those cases that may have been traumatic for a worker. Gladys was an asset to Chilliwack RCMP, and I missed her when she moved East. RIP, Sarge.

  • Deborah Silk McBride says:

I had the pleasure of knowing Gladys through ESS in Chilliwack and Summerland. She made me laugh hysterically. Her sense of humour was sharp and edgy. Gladys was a very intelligent and very compassionate human being. I am a better person having known her.
