SCHMIDT, Marianne

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Marianne Schmidt on February 15th, 2014. Marianne was born in Hirschberg, Germany in 1928. At four she met her lifelong friend Margit Linten. She was a kindergarten teacher in Arnstadt, Germany when she met Joaquim Karl Schmidt. They were married in 1950. In 1951 they had their only child Norbert. In 1952 they immigrated to Canada with a dream of a new life.
Joe and Marianne lived in Montreal, a farm in Ontario, then Calgary until 1975 settling in Westbank. Marianne Worked hard all her life. She was especially proud of the jewellery store she and Joe opened in 1975. She loved gardening and travelling. In later years she enjoyed taking the granddaughters on trips with them.
She is predeceased by her husband Joe in 2000 and her sister Elizabeth.
She leaves to mourn her only son Troy, his wife LeeAnn and granddaughters, Stephanie, Jennifer and Krista.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Society – Mountainview Village 1540 KLO Road, Kelowna, BC V1W 3P6.
