We Remember

SCHMIDT, Maureen

November 15, 1930 — October 18, 2020

Maureen Patricia May Schmidt was born November 15, 1930 in Kelowna B.C. to Richard and May. She loved her home town and lived there all her life. On October 18, 2020 our beautiful Mother was welcomed home into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.

In the early 1950s Maureen worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Hackey. On Spetember 15, 1956 Maureen married the love of her life, Joseph Ronald Schmidt, also of Kelowna. She was predeceased by her loving husband Joe on March 15, 1999. She is survived by her brother Richard, and four daughters, Lisa (Richard), Jo-Ann (John), Trish (Lindsay), and Janet (Todd). Maureen was most proud of her five grandchildren, Courtney (Roche), David, Cole, Joseph, and Branden.

We have wonderful memories of our Mother. She had a deep and meaningful relationship with Jesus, which was so evident in how she lived her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, selfless in all aspects of her life, and we will miss her wit, wise counsel, and calming presence in our lives. She loved her family unconditionally and was a prayer warrior for us all. Her smile was contagious and her laughter would fill up a room. And those that were fortunate enough to cross her path were left feeling blessed for having known her.

During the last two years, Maureen made The Dorchester her home. We want to acknowledge the wonderful team there and express our appreciation for how they welcomed Mom as part of the Dorchester community. We also want to thank the staff of Kelowna Hospice House for the care and compassion they showed Mom and our family. And our gratitude to Dr. Janet Evans for being incredibly special to Mom.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Maureen’s name to the Hospice House of Kelowna.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.
-John 14:3
