We Remember

SCHMITT, Daniel James

August 4, 1950 — December 23, 2019

In the early evening of December 23, 2019, our lovely bird Daniel took his flight into the realm of light. We are grateful that his suffering was shortened, and his soul uplifted from its mortal cage to soar – free and joyful at last. He was surrounded by his family throughout these final days, and although we are heartbroken at losing him, it gives us all a greater sense of peace to realize how much Daniel has been the instrument of our unity. His greatest joy was service to mankind, and his most excellent trait was truthfulness under all circumstances. His time spent as a stonemason to the Terraces in Haifa and the Baha’i Holy Places in Akka, Israel, provided his heart’s delight to the end. In more recent years as a Harp builder, he has been the artisan behind many Okanagan harpists. Daniel was a compassionate father and an adoring grandfather. We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers for him.

He leaves his loving wife and companion of 19 years Caroline Mackay, and his sons, daughters and their partners: Mason Schmitt, Wes & Rina Schmitt, Hardie Schmitt, Mike Pemberton, Jasmine & Nathan Ink, and Siobhan Aleck, as well as 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Eli, Saya and Kai.

“Grant, then, that Thy servant may consort with Thy chosen ones, Thy saints and Thy Messengers in heavenly places that the pen cannot tell nor the tongue recount… Deprive him not, O Lord, from his share of the banquet of Thy grace and the favour of Thy bounty. Thou art in truth the Almighty, the Gracious, the All-Bountiful” ~ Baha’u’llah
