We Remember
SCHNITZER, Waldemar
January 1, 1939 — October 11, 2021
Waldemar Schnitzer went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday October 11, 2021.
Waldemar was born on January 1, 1939 in Zaberuwie, Poland to Adolf and Melidia Schnitzer. He grew up in Germany and when he was 18 years old his older sister Adina invited him to come to Canada. In 1958, he came to live with his sister Adina and her family in Edmonton, AB and started working as a painter. In 1961, Waldemar decided to spend the winter in Germany, and that is when he rekindled a relationship with Hildegard Paustian whom he married in May 1962. They immigrated to Canada in June 1962 and settled in Edmonton. They had 2 sons, Ralph and Gerald who were both born while they lived in Edmonton. In 1974 the family moved to Kelowna, BC and became members of Grace Baptist Church.
Family was always important and a priority for Waldemar, and he loved having his grandchildren visit during the summer when he would take them fishing or to the lake for a swim. He was also close to his nieces and nephews, who came to visit him in Kelowna.
Waldemar leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 yrs, Hildegard; his sons Ralph (Ellie) and Gerald (Rita) and 5 grandchildren Rachel (Braeden), Gabriella, Landon, Jordan and Caleb; his sisters Else and Etta, and brother Benjamin in Germany. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany.
