We Remember
SCHOSTAK, Margaret
—
It is with great sadness that we say farewell to our beloved Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma (Oma) who was called to her heavenly home on October 5, 2015 at the age of 93. Family was very important to her and she will be deeply missed by her son Ray (Sandra) Schostak and daughter Verna (Ron) Mullins, four granddaughters – Laura (Chris) Curry, Jennifer (Sean) Dawson, Kristen (Kevin) England and Kimberly Mullins as well as eight great-grandchildren Gareth & Ian Curry, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Megan & Rachel Dawson, Bryn & Carter England and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gerhard (Gerry) Schostak in December 1988.
Born in Nussdorf, Germany, the second youngest of six children of Johan (John) and Emilia Donst, she came to Canada at age 8 with her family and together they homesteaded in the Winnipeg area. Following her marriage in January 1946, she and Gerry lived in Kitchener and Toronto, where they raised their family. In 1979 they retired to Kelowna.
Mom was the queen of hospitality and right up until the end insisted on sharing a meal with anyone who visited. She was also a very accomplished seamstress and a diehard Toronto Blue Jays fan. She loved music and sang in various church choirs, duets and trios.
Visitation will be held at the Springfield Funeral Home on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm followed by a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home Family Centre, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna. Your Mom and Dad (Gerry and Margaret Schostak) have created alot of precious memories for Doug, Tiffany and I while living in Toronto in the 70’s….and while in B.C., we were blessed to have visited them on afew occasions – and more recently (August 2015), Doug and I felt a compulsion to see Marg again – we are soo glad we did. She displayed a resolve to let-go of the things/people precious to her to things of eternal value. Marg loved her entire family and had a keen memory – she shared storied of her family and longed to see them but was even more ‘hungry’ for her eternal home – she will always have a special place in my heart personally since we often shared recipes, sang together in trios and choirs and catered together – what a gem – we consider her our ‘surrogate Mom’ …. she was our bright light every Sunday at Forward Baptist church – we seemed to have a standing invitation for lunch at Marg and Gerry’s – We are blessed beyond measure to know them both.
We were so saddened to hear of Margaret’s passing. She was a beloved member of our church for many years.
Everyone, who knew her ,loved her. She was so friendly, had a big smile for everyone and never complained.
We have been enroute since our retirement in Aug. We are in Palm Springs and will not be able to attend the
viewing. Our deepest sympathy to the family. She was so proud of all of you. Love & prayers. H.&E Elke
Dear Ray, Verna and families: Thank you for letting us know of the passing from this life into eternity of our cousin, Margaret. We last visited with her (and some of you) three summers ago. She was such a happy, vibrant person, and we enjoyed her company. When we were there, she treated us to a lovely dinner in the dining room. We enjoyed our visit with her, sharing many memories. Margaret had a wonderful gift of hospitality and we were always made to feel as if our visit was special. We offer our condolences – our thoughts and prayers are with you all. God bless you all.
I have such fond memories of Marg, a very dear friend to my mom. I listen to a recording of ‘No Greater Love’ every Good Friday, with her and my dad singing the duet ‘Come unto Me’. She was a classy lady, a woman of strength and deep faith.
Dear Verna and Ron and family. It was with much shock that I learned that our dear Margaret had gone Home. The mystery of what Heaven is like is now solved for her and we still await our turn. I know you will miss your dear Mom, Grandmother and aunt but am also sure you would not wish her back. We lived at Gordon Park Village and Sandalwood at the same time and she always shared a smile and after she wasn’t driving I had the joy of taking her with me to Adult Fellowship functions as long as she was able. May God Bless and comfort you , someday there will be a grand reunion and we all look forward to that day. Lovingly–Joy Oxenham
Dear Verna, Ray and families:
I also have such fond memories of your mom and dad in Forward Choir in my teen years, and also of both
of you as I saw you at church. My mom, Pauline Varty, and your mum, sang in a trio with Mrs. Timpson for a long time, and I believe they also sang duets as well. I well remember them practicing at our house.
Music is such a blessing in our lives, isn’t it?
Also we still have a mirror that your dad and mum gave us for a wedding gift!
Take care, and know you are being thought of and prayed for.
