We Remember
SCHULER, Elizabeth
July 10, 1930 — April 29, 2026
Elizabeth Schuler passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary, Elizabeth’s world was far removed from the life she would eventually build. She met the love of her life, Karl, in 1952, and the two married in 1957, embarking almost immediately on a great adventure: a new life in Canada. They arrived in Calgary in January of that year, and it was there that their son, Karl, was born in 1958.
In 1979, Elizabeth and Karl followed another dream westward to Kelowna, BC, where they owned and operated the Golden Sands Motel. When Elizabeth retired at 60, she turned her considerable energy toward the two things that brought her the deepest joy: her grandchildren, Karleen and Ali, and her flower gardens. She cherished them both beyond measure. Active in her church community, she was a woman who loved to sing, dance, and fill a room with warmth and laughter.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Karl Schuler; and her grandchildren, Karleen Elizabeth Lewis and Alexandra Lorraine Schuler. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Karl Schuler; her parents, Jozsef and Erzsebet Fizel; and her brothers, Jozsef, Janos, and Lazslo Fizel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A Celebration of Life, with Celebrant Kim Bergstrom officiating, will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 4:00 PM (PDT), at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. Karl, Karlene and Ali, Sending you all hugs and condolences. Words fall short at times such as this, but my thoughts and prayers to you and yours.
Much love, Mallalea
RIP Elizabeth.
Karl – Finding new words to say is tough, especially after all the talking we have been doing for the past number of months.. Your kindness and caring shown to your Mom in these past few years has been nothing short of phenomenal.
She is at rest now, and your work is almost done.
Much Love,
So sorry for your loss Karl and family. Your mom was full of laughter and it was always great to see her all those years at Arbuckle and hear her stories. Your gift of love taking care of her these past few years was truly inspiring and amazing! Kath and I are here for you always, any time. Karleen and Ali, so sorry for your loss. So great you were able to spend Christmas with your Grandma. She loved you so much!
Hey Karl. What a nice life story for a pretty special lady. I only met her once when she was down to visit you and your girls on 32nd Ave. It was a memorably fun meeting and reminded she me of my own short but feisty and fun 5′-2″ hockey mom. Sending warm thoughts to you, Karleen and Ali (sp?) from Denise and I. We will make sure to raise a pint from Portland for you all on the 9th.
Karl, Karleen, and Ali,
Sending all my love to you as you traverse your world without your Anyu and Nagymama. She loved all of you with her entire heart. I know you’ll never forget her, and will always remember her fondly.
Love and hugs, Lorraine/Mom
Karl— our thoughts are with you and the girls today as you say goodbye to your dear mom/ grandma. You have been an amazing son to her during the last few years as you made sure she had everything she needed to be comfortable. Now, she is at rest and free of pain. We know you have wonderful memories of her and will always tell great stories to keep her memory alive. Thinking of you today and sending you lots of hugs and love. Reach out if we can help in anyway.
Ken and Maria
So sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your girls during this difficult time.
Sincerely Tom and Laurie
