We Remember
SCHUMANN, Peter Robert
May 13, 1951 — August 27, 2022
Peter Schumann passed away August 27, 2022, at his home on the mountain. Peter was born on May 13, 1951, in Adelaide, South Australia. He was the son of Desmond Schumann – the Australian who bought Big White in 1985 and, with Peter, shaped the resort into what it is today. Peter served as the president and “family representative” at Big White until his retirement in 2014. His nephew, Peter Plimmer, took over as president and remains in that position today. Peter leaves behind his beloved wife, Nada, and children: Paul, Lara, Jessica, and Jarrah. He is also survived by his two sisters, Elizabeth Plimmer and Jane Cann.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the KGH Foundation.

Peter was one of my first supporters when I created Powderhound Ski Magazine. I have followed his career from his Hotham days until he relocated to Big White. Still shocked he’s no longer with us. RIP Peter
I am truly sorry for your loss. The Mountain won’t be the same without him. Please contact me if there is anything I can do.
Dear Jane, Jessica, Rob and families. Sorry to read of your loss. Sincere condolences. Jim Oakes OKM
I have only just heard of Peter’s passing realising this is a late message I worked at Mt Hotham backing the early 80s and remember all that well and the experiences I had there Thankyou Peter for everything 🎊🎉💐🍺🍻🍻🍺
I was personal assistant to the late Desmond Schumann And it is with a heavy heart that I read the passing of Peter. I sent to all the family my sincere condolences and love from Australia.
The brightest stars shine to remind us that special people are always with us. So look up into that beautiful night sky at Big White and look for the brightest one and have a toast with Pete. Forever in our hearts. Love Grossie and Rhonnie
Sending our sympathies to all of Peters family. We loved him and we’ll miss him. He’ll always be in our thoughts.
This is a sad day for the Schumann family and the family at Big White that he created. His legacy will continue on. My sincere condolences to his family.
We have been to Big White from the UK for the last six years and would just like to show our appreciation for making a little piece of heaven here on Earth. I never met Peter but was obviously a man with great vision. Rest in peace
Although my only meetings with Mr. Schumann were friendly hellos, in the elevator at Chateau Big White, I will miss him. The Scumann family’s accomplishments at Big White, have brought joy to our family for many decades. Thank you Peter.
After 45 years of knowing Peter Robert we will miss him dearly. Dickie will no doubt continue to give him a call every now and then to discuss complete trivia and will look forward to seeing him up in ‘the clouds”. Rest well Pete. Your old friends and Mates-in-laws, Dick and Jane.
I was so shocked to hear of Peter’s passing away. I worked at Mt Hotham in 75, 76. Peter was a larger than life character. It was always more fun when he was around. One time a bunch of us went up into the roof of Snowbird Lodge to smoke pot and the manager heard us stomping around and came up and caught us. Most of the participants were fired but Peter saved me and I continued to work for two seasons. He was a lucky man to be so loved and will be sorely missed. Love to his grieving family and friends. Meryl

What a sad day. Pete was such a force in my life personally. He gave Blue & I so many opportunities with our various business ventures – The Forest, The High Forest, Rentchalets & finally Gigi’s restaurant. Always tough, always fair and always with an unwavering belief in us. Thank you so much Pete for the trust. And for marrying my friend – Nada was one of your best decisions! I am realizing with this loss just what a force & example you set for me in my life – authentic, generous, challenging and quietly successful. Miss you already. And so much love to you Nada & family. Here for you always. xoxo
To all of Pete’s family – my sincere condolences. The world was better with Pete in it and his energy and the memories of him will last a lifetime – VALE PRS
