We Remember
SCOTT, Marguerite (nee Bowes)
—
Long-time resident of Kelowna and Westbank, passed away of old age on July 30th at the age of 98 years. Predeceased by her husband Jack Scott in 1973, and by her brothers Carlyle and Alvin and sisters Emma and Eileen, Marguerite is survived by loving children John, Gerry (Christine), and Kendra (Eric): four grandchildren Graeme, Nicole, Erin, and Jack; and nieces and nephews Clara and Ron, Eileen and Bruce, Carole and Don, Greg and Laura, Jill, Debby and Terry, Tom and Linda, Bob and Joanne. Proud of her prairie roots in Bresaylor, Saskatchewan Marguerite moved to Kelowna in 1938 and graduated from Herbert’s Business College in Kelowna to complement her certification as a piano teacher from the Royal Conservatory of Music. World War II opened new doors for her including a temporary move to Vancouver, work at Boeing, and selling War Bonds. Married in 1948, her first child John was born in 1949, during a period when she travelled around Western Canada with Jack as he supervised construction projects. Back in Kelowna by 1952, she applied her business and secretarial skills at Sun Rype, Westbank Chamber of Commerce, and the Kelowna School District. Never one to sit still, she was a charter member of the Kelowna Chapter of the Eastern Star and a founder of the Westbank Yacht Club. She skated, golfed at the Kelowna Country Club and throughout North America, played the organ in the United Church and travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Africa, China, Mexico and South America. She was a community volunteer with many groups and established scholarship funds at Okanagan Community College. Known for her wry wit, probing questions, and love of a good time, Marguerite was a force of inspiration and guidance right up to her last days, as she perfected the art of downing her heart pills with white wine. Her indomitable spirit lives on in all who knew her. A very special thanks to the wonderful staff members at Dorchester and Hawthorne Park/Orchard Manor and to Clara and Ron.

John, Gerry, & Kendra,
Our condolences on the passing of your mom. Gary’s mom also sends her condolences – she remembers your mom as always being so much fun, particularly at the dinners they used to have at her place and, of course, there was her music at church and at home. She was very kind to us when we first moved to Pritchard Drive – she invited me to the ladies’ strawberry tea the first summer we were here to introduce me to all the neighbours! You were lucky to have her for so long and you will miss her greatly.
Best wishes,
Gary and Jennifer Reece
