SEGATE, Debbie “Deb”
December 18, 1955 — October 30, 2021
With profound sadness and broken hearts, we share the news of Debbie’s sudden passing at her home in Kelowna Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Debbie is survived by her husband and love of her life, Ron Doig; her puppies and constant companions Molly and Cooper; her children Trina Joslin (Dustin), Cory Doig/Jenny Lyttle, and Megan McClelland (Kevin); her grandchildren Bradly and Justin Doig, Jaxon Joslin and Chloe McClelland; her sister Cindy Charlton; her nephews and niece Ryan, Michelle, and Kent, and their families; and countless friends, extended family, and her treasured Baxter’s team.
Debbie was predeceased by her father, her dear mother, and her sister Joanne.
Debbie was born and raised in Chilliwack. Upon graduation she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, a career she excelled at and enjoyed. Her compassionate and caring heart found her exploring many avenues of nursing within the hospital, Women’s Clinic, and the Cancer Agency.
Deb was happiest when seeking adventure with her soul mate Ron, enjoying extensive travels to Mexico and Mesa or even simple weekend getaways. She found joy in many things. Her friends, her family, her dogs, a good glass of wine, good food, cookies, a game of pickleball, a round of golf, a bocce match, walking her dogs in nature, all flowers, all animals, cooking and finding new recipes, playing card games, music, movies, funky shoes, shopping both in-person and online, DYI home improvements and decorating, and watching sports on TV or live at her grandson’s games.
Debbie loved people, and it showed. People gravitated to her. Her kind heart, generous nature, feisty spirit and acceptance for all facilitated her strong connections to others. She has left an irreparable hole in our lives that we will forever honour with our memories and love for her.
In lieu of flowers, we respectfully ask that a donation be made to the SPCA in Deb’s name as it is an organization she loved and supported.
We will be holding an informal, drop-in, open house in remembrance of Debbie on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Baxter’s, 2-1745 Spall Road in Kelowna from 1-4 PM. In keeping with Covid-19 protocols please have a mask and a vaccine passport available.

Sincere condolences to Debbie’s Family on her sudden death. This was a shock as I have know her family of origin for over 45 years and her deceased parents Joe and Irma Segate. Debbie’s middle name was Irma after her mother. She was also predeceased by a brother Robert when he was a child; Her mother was always so proud and loving of her family. However, her oldest sister Joanne is Not deceased and she has been my best friend all these years.
Debbie is also survived by 2 brothers, Joe and Ken Segate and their families. My thoughts and prayers are with her sisters Joanne and Cindy, niece Michelle, nephews Ryan and Kent and their families and her 2 brothers and their families.

Ron and family, I can only imagine how tough it is to loose someone so young and so suddenly. I will always remember working with Deb in Hemo many years ago. The patients loved her up beat happy good natured teasing. You two made a great team. Sincerely Deb and Nigel Eggers

Deb was the most amazing person! I will miss her so much! I worked many years with her at the cancer agency and she was an absolute ray of sunshine! She was always wearing the most amazing clothes and always had the most amazing hairstyles and always entertaining stories of her travels 🙂 I will miss her smile and easy conversation the most . My sincerest condolences to your family! Deb was an amazing woman and I will miss her greatly !
Debbie was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever had to pleasure to meet and work with. She’s so patient, kind, and compassionate towards everyone. She was a ray of sunshine… I’m so sorry to hear of her passing… She’ll be missed dearly.

My deepest condolences going across the miles from Winnipeg from Garry and Debbie Whyte. We met Deb in Mesa on the pickleball court and became instant friends. She had recently sent an email asking if we were going to Mesa this year as they were leaving soon. We weren’t going down due to our vaccination status but were looking forward to reconnecting on the courts in Kelowna in March again when we come for a month to visit my mom. We sure appreciated our time with her this past March getting together to play pickleball in Kelowna and having lunch with her at Baxter’s. We are so sorry Ron for the loss of your beautiful wife. Our condolences to all of Deb’s family. Her bubbly spirit will be missed by so many.

Ron We are so sorry to hear of Debs passing. We will always remember the times at La Penita Mexico and the never to be forgotten trip out of Mexico. I went to high school with Debbie. Our 50th high school reunion is coming up. I googled Debbie’s name in hopes of contacting her. I was hoping to connect at the reunion. I am sad to hear of her death. I will be sure to mention her name when we memorialize classmates we have lost.
